Alex James added ā āThere’s always something really special when the four of us get in a room. It’s nice to think that on 8th July that room will be Wembley Stadium.ā
And Dave Rowntree said ā āAfter the chaos of the last few years, itās great to get back out to play some songs together on a summerās day in London. Hope to see you there.ā
We move our News Report on now to festival announcements and start with new event Dog Day Afternoon which is set for Crystal Palace Park in London next July.
The event will feature Iggy Pop, Blondie and supergroup Generation Sex.
āBlondie and Iggy Popā¦ we are excited to reunite with our friend, the one & only Prince of Punk, Iggy for this special show in Crystal Palace Park. Once more, with feeling!ā – Debbie Harry
āJust every now and then we find time to get together with old pals from back in the day – purely just for the crack and to have fun. If it aināt fun then we aināt interested, lifeās too shortā – Steve Jones
The final festival announcement in our News Report this week comes from Bloodstock, who have made further additions to a line-up that features Killswitch Engage, Megadeth, Anthrax, In Flames, Ugly Kid Joe, Knocked Loose and Nonpoint amongst others.
New additions this week include Heaven Shall Burn and Seething Akira.
Next, our News Report covers the best new releases from the past week and we begin this week with Enter Shikari.
The group shared new single, ‘Bull’, featuring Cody Frost and you can check out the video above.
Lead vocalist and keyboardist Rou Reynolds comments: āSome people seem to crop up in your life, do immense damage to it, and then scuttle off again unscathed and unfazed. Whether itās harassers or bullies, social media trolls, or ill-considered romantic partners, this song is about those who damage your mental health, your self-esteem, and even your very identityā.
āWeāve known Cody for years and years now, and consider them a real part of the inner Shikari family. Weāve always known they were a wonderful talent and itās been great to see them begin to ascend and find their voice.
When I was writing the chorus to Bull I could just immediately hear their voice. It seemed ingrained in the very viscera of the song already. We showed them the track and they came at us with all the passion in the world. Cody has incredible dynamic ability and is able to offer enormous power but with real vulnerability and tenderness never too far away. It was a joy to have them on this one, it all came together so effortlessly and we are all over the moon with the resultā.
Cody Frost adds: āI canāt tell you how much this collab means to me, and it came at just the right time. Iād been through a hard breakup and lost everything, so when Rory messaged me asking if I wanted to be on a Shikari track, I lost my mind! Iāve been a huge fan of Enter Shikari since I was 15, I even have my favourite track title tattooed on my palms.
When I got the news I sat in my room for hours and the lyrics just poured out, I went into the studio with Dan (Weller), who has worked with me on my own music and some of Shikariās too, to lay down the vocals while the band listened!
Filming the video was a dream, my favourite musicians serving me pies!!! It was surreal, and the concept was so fun I just know that Shikari fans are gonna dig it.ā
Stray From The Path debut video for ‘Neighborhood Watch’
Stray From The Path, have released a music video for new single, ‘Neighborhood Watch’, with footage shot during their recent headline tour. Check out the video above.
“We wanted to do something fun, and something special on our last tour around North America,” says guitarist Tom Williams, “we filmed every single show and put together a music video where people were apart of it. It’s awesome to see familiar faces, and new faces having fun, playing new shit and just enjoying what we’ve missed so much.”
The Murder Capital have shared the latest single from their upcoming album, ‘Gigi’s Recovery’, which is out January 20th. Listen to ‘Ethel’ above.
The band share about the new single: āThe song āEthelā is a picture of a crossroads, really, asking you what you want from life. Whether you want to continue down a path of chaos, or make a change in your course. Itās showing you what is possible when you make the decisions that bring a sort of cradled warmth into your future. The idea of āEthelā is that you can have what you truly desire if you put to rest those short-lived fixes that never bring you any real happiness.ā
The band also share the Maxim Kelly directed video for ‘Ethel’; Kelly shares about the making of the video: āInitially I thought Ethel should be the main character and do the dance at the end, and I always had this image from this French film called ‘My American Uncle’. Where itās like a little girl standing up at a table. I originally had that image in my head for a rap video, but it didnāt really make sense to the song, I wanted this to feel more like surreal so then as I started finding more imagery, it kind of transpired that maybe the maid was the more interesting character.ā
Jamie Lenman reveals NHS Charity single ‘Hospital Tree’
Ahead of the release of his fifth solo album, ‘The Athiest’, out November 25th, Jamie Lenman has shared new single ‘Hospital Tree’, which you can listen to above.
Proceeds from the track go towards NHS Charities.
Commenting on the track, Lenman says: āI ended up visiting Frimley Park Hospital, who treated me when I got pneumonia and took care of my Dad when he had cancer, to talk to them about the idea of Christmas in hospital. One lady said she was glad I’d noticed their efforts with things like decorations and such, that cheering the place up around the holidays is important to them, and that one of the things that made the pandemic even harder was that they weren’t able to do as much of that. So it was wonderful that they could hear my message of thanks. I hope they all hear it.ā
The single comes with a beautifully simplistic video directed by Jen Hingley that echoes the poignant lyrical themes of the song, which sees Lenman flexing his multi-instrumental muscles on a piano ballad in yet another impressive chameleonic turn.
āMy original idea had been to get hold a huge choir and have everyone singing away in this whole epic production,āĀ says Lenman of the visuals,Ā ābut I just couldn’t get it together so we ended up going the other wayājust me and a piano in a beautiful old village hall, really concentrating on the song and, of course, the tree.ā
Willie J Healey shares new single ‘Sure Feels Good’
About to hit the road supporting Florence + The Machine on her UK Arena Tour, Willie J Healey has shared new single āSure It Feels Goodā, which you can listen to above. The tracks serves as another taster ofnew album ‘Bunny’ out 24th March.
Earlier this year James And The Cold Gun released debut EP, ‘False Start’. Now the ‘Discover’ New Music Playlist alumni will start to build towards their full debut album with new single, ‘Chewing Glass’, which you can listen to above.
Frontman James Joseph had the following to say about the themes behind their new single:
“Chewing Glass” was written during a time where I felt like I couldn’t catch a break. The verses are a conversation with myself in the mirror at a low point where I’m re-evaluating all of my decisions – in essence, it’s a song about being down on your luck but persisting anyway. It’s our first self-produced song, which in itself was an act of persistence, but we’re super happy with the result.”
The former Boy Jumps Ship return as STAY FREE and share their new single, ‘Future Self’.
The band had the following to say:
āWeāre so excited to release new music, it’s by far the most exciting thing we have ever been a part of as musicians, and weāre excited to get it out there and release new tunes consistently. Working with Jason was a blast, itās the most fun we have ever had in the studio.ā
Lux Lyall – ‘Draw Blood’
Acclaimed singer, songwriter and poet Lux Lyall has released her brand new single, ‘Draw Blood’.
Regarding the new single Lux says, āāDraw Bloodā is actually about multiple things. A few years ago I was finally open with my therapist about an assault that happened while I was dating someone when I was younger; I was pretty closed about it after it happened because I actually felt guilty for staying in the relationship afterwards. Now I know I basically shut the whole thing out because I didnāt want to face it, itās still hard to talk about.
āReflecting on that a few years ago while in another romantic situation that made me feel stifled, I wrote the chorus about being angry at what Iād put up with, and what a lot of my friends were still putting up with in abusive situations. The verses are more about how trapped I felt at the time.
āI was watching a few of my guy friends going on tour and I was happy for them and envious at the same time. I kept thinking about the concept of ābeing with the bandā and how Iād been that way when I was young and all it did was give me trauma! Iām trying to say I donāt want to be with the band anymore I want to BE the band.ā
Adult Leisure – ‘Control’
Bristol-based alt-indie four-piece Adult Leisure release new single, ‘Control’, taken from upcoming debut EP, ‘The Weekend Ritual’.
Reflecting on the EP, the band state, āweāve always wanted to produce an honest and homegrown debut selection of songs which both showcases our ability as musicians, but also keeps in line with our honest grass roots style. We wanted people to hear us with no filter or 3rd party influence. In an industry where so much is insincere, we wanted to give people us and us alone.ā
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single the band state, āControl focuses around an immeasurable love to which itās clear the object of affection isnāt the wisest choice, yet still the lover is drawn ever closer, due to the overwhelming presence the recipient of their adoration has within their life.
They are the drug they can’t seem to pry themselves away from. They are hell, yet they are home and this is the battle the lover is having with themselves.ā
Welcome everyone to another edition of our weekly music News Report!
We start this week with the sensational news that Tom, Mark and Travis are reunited together again and Blink-182 will be heading out on a huge world tour in 2023!
In the UK that equates to an arena run taking in Glasgow, Belfast, Birmingham, Manchester and two shows in London. UK support comes from The Story So Far.
The trio also debuted new track, ‘Edging’, which you can check out below and revealed a new album is on the way.
Our News Report continues with news from the Yard Act camp. Bringing an end to their hugely successful campaign for debut album, ‘The Overload’, the group have revealed four special live dates next year.
The run will conclude with their biggest headline date so far at the legendary Brixton Academy!
Another band targeting some pretty intimate venues for their next UK tour are Stone Broken who this week announced details of their ‘Come Closer’ tour set for February next year.
The final tour announcement in our News Report this week comes from guitar slinger Kenny Wayne Shepherd! Shepherd and band will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of ‘Trouble Is…’.
This week saw Rival Sons return with news that they will be releasing a new album, ‘Darkfighter’ on March 10th.
The group also debuted their brand new single, ‘Nobody Wants To Die’, which you can listen to above.
Regarding ‘Nobody Wants to Die’, vocalist Jay Buchanan shares, āYou live your life knowing that the sword of Damocles is hanging over your head by a thread. Youāre fully aware of the impermanence of your existence, but you canāt think about it all the timeāor itāll fuck your life up.
I used to work in a mortuary as a service advisor for a few years, driving and opening the hearses. Iād attend three funerals per day. Sometimes, they would be filled over capacity. Other times, it would just be me, a priest, and a hole in the ground. It doesnāt matter who you are; the great equalizer is coming. I was thinking of this because the music sounded like pursuit.ā
Elaborating on the genesis of ‘Darkfighter’, Buchanan notes, ā’Darkfighter’ represents the cultural mitosis of isolation, the Pandemic, and the national fabric of the US getting looser and looser. When I say āCultural Mitosisā, there are lines being drawn constantly. Weāre so divided, and you canāt step over the lines without offending someone. It certainly informed my writing.
We recognized a responsibility to put a good word on peopleās ears so thereās a good word coming back on their tongues too. We missed the joy of the live show and that magical interaction. When it was taken from us, that made me want to sing about topics that were important. There are strong themes on this record of loss of identity, preservation of joy, and beholding light and shape again.ā
Lead guitarist Scott Holiday added, āRecords are a healthy form of escapism. I hope this one takes you as far away as possible. Our intent was to create a cinematic body of work. As soon as the doors shut behind you, youāre enveloped on the ride. This is the sound of us really coming into our own. Weāve gotten further from our influences and gotten closer to what we are. ‘Darkfighter’ sounds like the Rival Sons.ā
This week saw Tigercub return with their new single, ‘The Perfume of Decay’, which you can listen to above.
The track marks Tigercubās debut release for Loosegroove Records, the label co-founded by Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard, a longtime champion of the band.
āThey say comparison is the thief of joy,ā says Tigercubās 7-foot frontman Jamie Hall,āand nowhere is this more acutely felt than on the internet; the public ledger where I must amend my social cv daily, to portray my life to others in the most rose tinted & ineffable way possible. The reality couldnāt be further from the truth of course, beneath this facade I am crumbling, cascading into despair and at odds with my emotions. āThe Perfume of Decayā is my expression of this feeling, an argument between affectation and naturalness. It marks the beginning of a new era for us ā this is Tigercub at its heaviest, its most accomplished, and most unapologetic.ā āJamie Hall is not only an incredible songwriter, singer, and fucking wicked guitarist,ā says Stone Gossard,ābut he also has a deep understanding of art and music history. This guy dabbles in it all ā visual arts, digital media, world history. This band is generational, and Jamieās a natural star. Loosegroove couldnāt be happier working with Tigercub.ā
āItās all about opposites,ā Jamie Hall says. āSweet-and-salty popcorn tends to taste better than regular popcorn, even though those are two opposing forces. I wanted to nail that concept with our heavy guitars, softer-sung vocals, Can-style grooves, and a bit of shoegaze. Counterpoints can come together and make a powerful connection. Iāve crossed the threshold from my 20s to my 30s, so Iām getting older, but Iām also entering my prime. This record is a reflection of that.ā
Pulled Apart By Horses share video for ‘Rinse & Repeat’
Pulled Apart By Horses this week shared the video for their single, ‘Rinse & Repeat’, which you can watch above. The track comes from new album, ‘Reality Cheques’, which is out now!
Commenting on the track, vocalist Tom Hudson says the single is āan ode to all that have found themselves trapped in the darker corners of the music industry. The repetitive whirring of the machine. A spanner in the works of the daily grind. A helping hand to break out of a vicious cycle. The realisation that they need you more than you need them. Inspired by seeing Ziggy Stardust stood in line at the jobcentre. More punk rock than Iggy advertising life insurance.ā
There was also more new music this week from Witch Fever. The group debuted new single, ‘Beauty and Grace’, which you can check out above.
The track features on debut album, ‘Congregation’, which is out October 21st.
Singer Amy Walpole says of the track, āāBeauty and Graceā ended up being the dark horse of the record! Before we went into the studio it wasnāt one of our faves but Sam really brought it out of its shell! The song is about pushing back against oppressive feminine beauty standards whilst also finding a place for femininity that you enjoy and makes you feel powerful !! Femininity is not a weakness, as much as society may tell you it is! If it empowers you and brings you joy itās a strength!ā
Dream State return with new line-up and new single ‘Taunt Me’
Following a period of uncertainty, this week saw the spectacular return of Dream State! With a fresh line-up, the group debuted their brand new single, ‘Taunt Me’, which you can check out above.
The final new release in our News Report this week comes from The Sleeping Souls! Usually seen backing Frank Turner, the group have stepped out with touring buddy Cahir on vocals.
‘Liar Lover’ is the first sample of what to expect from the band in this guise, and you can check it out above.
Norwich-based post-hardcore outfit Other Half have debuted new track ‘Slab Thick’.
Commenting on the video, the band say: āBSM wanted a high-concept, high-production pop video to help shift some serious units so we wrangled the few dogs we know and the one cat we own to produce three and a half minutes of visual magic.ā
āWe like doing everything ourselves; for DIY punk kudos and because weāre tight and awkward, so it was fun figuring out how to make it look like weāre all playing in a room together even when one of us was filming the whole time.”
āFor the second part of the video we had next to nothing and were filming some pretty shudder-inducing stuff in the local park when our friendās Roya and Charlie walked past with their dogs; Daisy and Lily. Never one to miss a free opportunity for content, we scooped those dogs up, spun around a bit and sung at the camera. Rinse, repeat and the rest is history. Thanks to all the nice animals that starred alongside us.ā
IOTA – ‘Ballet Box’
‘Ballet Box’, the latest single from Bristol-based rock five-piece IOTA is out now.
Explaining the inspiration behind the single, vocalist and lyricist Jodie Robinson explains, āIts about a ballerina inside of a jewellery box coming to life as the box closes. Inspired by the thought of the āobjectā coming to life and how they’d never know what it was like to be outside of that box and nobody would ever know that they were alive. There was a play on the element of control and feeling trapped, fighting with that part of your mind. Itās very much a song about āIs there more to life and can we fulfil that void’.”
Blue Violet – ‘Favourite Jeans’
Blue Violet follow up debut album with new single, ‘Favourite Jeans’.
āFor all of the chaos and hardships that Covid brought to the world it also provide ample time for people to be creativeā reflects singer Sarah Gotley of the āLove, Hate & Forgivenessā EP. āSo although we only released our debut album in April this year we wanted to bring out some of the music that we’d been working on in that timeā.
Welcome everyone to another edition of our weekly music News Report, where we roundup the best news from the past week. We start this week with the latest tour announcements, including the above from The Hunna!
Having just revealed the details of their upcoming new self-titled album, the band have now scheduled in a lengthy UK Tour for later this year. Support comes from Kid Kapichi and Lucy Deakin.
‘Trash’, the lead single from the new album kicks things off by giving the music industry both barrels, taking pot-shots at the execs who told them āTikTok, TikTok or else you get droppedā.
āWeāre not calling anyone specific out,ā explains Ryan. āitās just overall industry suckiness. It highlights things weāve experienced in the industry over the years and things we see going on and hear about now. Thereās a lot of bad shit that still goes on in the industry and a lot of it gets swept under the rug. But weāre in the position where weāre on our fourth album, we feel refreshed and confident and this is what weāre going to say. You either like it or you donāt, itās cool either way. We are who we are.ā
Speaking of lengthy tours, Blossoms will truly be putting the work in at the end of this year with the above trek around the UK. With shows already starting to sell out, these aren’t ones to sit on.
Nile Rodgers & Chic announces End of Summer Parties
The legendary Nile Rodgers and Chic have announced two massive concert appearances at the iconic London venue O2 Academy Brixton, on Monday 19th September 2022 as well as a second show at O2 Victoria Warehouse, Manchester on the 21st of September.
Nile Rodgers said, āAfter the blues of Covid weāve had an incredible summer in the UK getting up front and close with all of our incredible fans. What better way to celebrate the last day of summer and the first day of autumn than with our final UK shows of the year at Brixton and Manchester. We want to invite all the Lionesses whoāve made the whole country so proud to get up on stage for what will truly be Good Times!ā
Black Honey this week announced a special one-off show at OMEARA in London. The band has teased the show as the beginning of their new era. Tickets have already sold out, for more info check here.
Another band with new tour dates to reveal as we continue our News Report is none other than The Wonder Years, who will hit the UK this November!
Speaking of the tour, frontman Dan ‘Soupy’ Campbell, says “Fun Fact: Weāve been touring the UK longer than anywhere in the world, including the US. This year marks 15 years since our first UK tour and the memories weāve madeāfrom playing literal basements up to Alexandria Palaceāhave been and continue to be some of our most treasured. So itās with an immeasurable joy that we get to tell you today that, for the first time since 2019, weāre doing a headlining UK tour this November. We canāt wait to play everything for youānew stuff from THGOF, old favourites, the whole damn thing.”
A single piece of festival news in our News Report this week and it comes from Manchester event Neighbourhood Festival.

They join the already announced The Snuts, Everything Everything, Sundara Karma, Baby Queen, Lauran Hibberd, Louis Dunford, Stone, Ten Tonnes, The Goa Express, The Royston Club, The Skinner Brothers and Courting!
We move our News Report onwards now to the best new releases from the past week and we begin with Slipknot.
The band continue to prepare for their upcoming album, ‘The End, So Far’, which is out September 30th. This week the band debuted new track, ‘Yen’, which you can listen to above.
Another massive rock act with new music this past week is Alter Bridge. The band shared their latest track, ‘Silver Tongue’, which you can listen to above.
The song will feature on upcoming album, ‘Pawns & Kings’, which is out October 14th.
This week also saw IDLES debut the video for their track, ‘Stockholm Syndrome’.
Speaking on the video, directors Charlotte Gosch and the bandās own Lee Kiernan explain, āThe process of making the video was very fulfilling for the both of us as we were able to physically create what we were imagining. Both the masks and shapes were handmade and painted by ourselves and friends.
Working with our DOP Rob French we were also able to realise the long shots of each verse and the opening scene of the dancers. We both love the exhaustive and immediate feeling that a long shot can convey, like in Gus Van Santās Gerry, which we referenced quite literally.
The initial idea of the video was to try and visualise the monotony hell of having to work to survive and how the āmachineā eventually engulfs you and strips you of your freedoms. But we wanted to achieve this in a metaphorical way that kept the meaning as open as possible. So it becomes rather a visual representation that can be read in many different ways.”
There was also new music from LIFE this week as they debuted new single, ‘Duck Egg Blue’, which you can check out above.
The track will feature on new album, ‘North East Coastal Town’, which is out on August 19th.
Speaking on the new release vocalist Mez says: āāDuck Egg Blueā is a realist’s love song. The journey of trying to navigate through each otherās feelings and emotions, the strains of close quarters trapped in a tiny flat, the minutiae of everyday life. The overarching sentiment is that no matter what happens, after all that is said and done, we love each other, and we are there for each other.ā
Pet Needs debut new single ‘Fear for the Whole Damn World’
‘Discover’ New Music Playlist alumni now, and Pet Needs have shared their brand new single, ‘Fear for the Whole Damn World’, which you can listen to above.
The track comes ahead of new album, ‘Primetime Entertainment’, which is out September 9th.
Fellow previous ‘Discover New Music Playlist members Oakman have also released new music this week. You can listen to new single, ‘All The Way Up’, above.
About the song, the band says, āāAll The Way Upārepresents this long journey in a life between fear, hesitation and the desire to never stop going further. Since we were born, we all have dreams that we never stop fighting for. For which we will always be regarded as an alien by others because we are often misunderstood and not supported. And when everything else gets in the way, it’s often psychologically hard to continue to find strength.Ā But every day is a new day and every day brings a new strength to keep going all the way up.ā
The Lounge Society have shared new track, ‘Upheaval’, the latest track to be taken from their upcoming debut album ‘Tired of Liberty’, out August 26th.
The band comments, “Upheaval has a calmer atmosphere than anything weāve done before and looking back on the album as a whole, it may in fact be one of the most important tracks on there. In the studio Dan [Carey, producer] really helped us bring a certain vintage feel to life – with deep textured acoustic guitars, heavily impacted by the ambient room mixing we focused on in the closing stages of the album. This song, more than anything else weāve ever done, feels like us together as four mates playing a song that we love.ā
Grave Goods – ‘Source’
Grave Goods have shared their new single, āSourceā, taken from debut album ‘TUESDAY. NOTHING EXISTS.’, which is out 9th September.
On the track, drummer Sarah Grimes said, āThis was the second song we wrote. It was written on drums and guitar first, we wanted it to be really minimal in the verse with drums and vocals and contrasted with louder choruses with the guitar and drums working together with bass added later. When we were structuring the song we took the guitar line from the chorus and used it as the intro to hook people in.
When we wrote the song initially, I had a mic set up beside me and I whispered āha haā at the end of each bar during the verses. Those were dropped as we started to play the song live but while we were recording we decided to add it back in – me whispering āHa Haā on my tiptoes trying to reach Loisā mic.ā
ENOLA – ‘Strange Comfort’
Melbourne-based singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist ENOLA, sharesnew single āStrange Comfortā.
ENOLA says of the track, āThere is a comfort in knowing that suffering can be a universal experience. We are alone, yet together in our aloneness.ā
On the accompanying video they say, āIn the film I am not playing a role or character & Iām not playing myself as I am today. I am looking back at a past self and a time & place gone. A time of fearlessness, hopelessness & rebellion.ā
