Kasabian announce UK Winter tour dates

Welcome everyone to another edition of our weekly music News Report! We start this week with the best tour announcements from the past week, and up first is the above run of dates from Kasabian.

Fresh from playing Knebworth with Liam Gallagher, the band has announced four huge shows set for later this year. Support for the shows comes from The Lathums.

Kasabian also debuted their latest single this week ahead of their new album, ‘The Alchemist’s Euphoria’ on August 5th. Listen to ‘CHEMICALS’ below.

Kasabian – ‘CHEMICALS’

“It is me telling myself that it is going to be okay” Serge Pizzorno said of the track.

“It was me seeing myself in those few weeks when everything kicked off. It’s the future me saying to that person: ‘This is shit, but don’t worry, it will get better.’ So having a song about talking to yourself is universal, I think. We all have to find a way to deal with the complications, the mess and the mortality of life.”

Of the new album Serge adds: “One thing about this record I feel over the other ones, is it definitely feels like a body of work that belongs together. It was a beautiful moment in mastering hearing it as a piece. I think it really holds up in our seven albums….The Magnificent Seven”

Panic! At The Disco will return to the UK in 2023

Our next tour announcement sees Panic! At The Disco return to the UK in March 2023 for four huge shows.

The tour will be in support of their newly announced album, ‘Viva Las Vengeance’. The release date for their new album is August 19th.

As we continue our News Report, we have another band set for a UK Tour this year in Canadians Cancer Bats, who will trek around the UK in September.

Live at Leeds announces city line-up

We move now onto the best festival announcements as our News Report continues.

With Live at Leeds holding this first outdoor event this week, they also revealed the line-up for their traditional city based event.

Acts includes Pale Waves, Working Men’s Club, Sea Power, Dinosaur Pile-Up, The Skinner Brothers, Anorak Patch, Chappaqua Wrestling, The Native and many more.

Speaking about headlining Live At Leeds: In The City, Heather Baron-Gracie of Pale Waves said: “We’re super excited to be headlining this year’s Live At Leeds: In The City! It’s always been a great city for us and a fun one to play, we can’t wait to be back to play some tracks from our new album ‘Unwanted’.”

Speaking about Live At Leeds: In The City 2022, Festival Promoter Joe Hubbard said: “As we get ready for the inaugural edition of Live At Leeds: In The Park, we’re delighted to announce the first wave of names for the festival that started it all – Live At Leeds: In The City.

It’s been formative for so many artists’ careers and we’re excited to be criss-cross across Leeds City Centre this October to discover more of our favourite new artists who are set to takeover in 2023 and beyond! Headliners Pale Waves are a great example of this, having stormed the Brudenell Social Club back in 2018 for an unforgettable set – so having them return to headline the festival as a whole is sure to be a real moment.

With many more to be announced, it’s going to be an incredible day and we can’t wait to see everyone this October!”

Muse debut ‘Will of the People’

Muse – ‘Will of the People’

We move our News Report onwards now to the best new releases from the past week.

Where else to start other than Muse? The band debuted their latest single, ‘Will of the People’ this week. You can listen to the track above, which comes ahead of the album of the same name on August 26th.

Matt Bellamy says, “‘Will of the People’ is fictional story set in a fictional metaverse on a fictional planet ruled by a fictional authoritarian state run by a fictional algorithm manifested by a fictional data centre running a fictional bank printing a fictional currency controlling a fictional population occupying a fictional city containing a fictional apartment where a fictional man woke up one day and thought ‘fuck this.’”

Bury Tomorrow release new single ‘LIFE (Paradise Denied)’

Bury Tomorrow – ‘LIFE’

Next up in our News Report, we have Bury Tomorrow. The band this week released their latest single, ‘LIFE (Paradise Denied)’, which you can check out above.

Frontman, Dani Winter-Bates admits “as we head into this new era of Bury Tomorrow we want our fans to be as excited as we are and equally as we head into festival season and this year’s touring we hope this track gets people ready to go wild and celebrate the ‘reopening’ of the live music industry. Life and Death were recorded as stand-alone singles and a small taste of what’s to come next.”

The accompanying music video was directed and produced by the band’s long time friend, Aaran McKenzie (bassist in While She Sleeps). “Aaran is super-talented, proving his skills time and time again, we are grateful he could work his magic on such short notice and create such an awesome, raw video, that really suits everything the song is about.”

Speaking of the new era, the band share: “We have all collectively faced the craziest upheaval in both our personal and professional lives over the last few years. However, this time has given the band a chance to focus on what Bury Tomorrow means to them, and has equally provided a chance to channel influences, creatively expand and move forward with a new, driven direction.”

Hot Water Music share video for ‘Turn the Dial’

Hot Water Music – ‘Turn the Dial’

This week also saw Hot Water Music share the video for their track, ‘Turn the Dial’, which you can watch above. The song features on their new album, ‘Feel The Void’.

Guitarist/vocalist Chris Cresswell had the following to share about the song itself: “Turn the dial for nothing’ is in reference to searching for something that’s out there, while knowing that nothing you’ll find will ever make you as happy as what you can create yourself. Finding yourself so tapped and so exhausted by all this kind of life entails, but also never being able to put that fire out. The search always continues.”

Wooze – ‘Bittersweet Timpani’

London duo WOOZE have announced their return with a propulsive new single titled ‘Bittersweet Timpani’.

Speaking on the new single, the band say the track is, “A song about walking home alone, dejected and rejected. We thought the pitiful, pity-party lyrics would juxtapose nicely with the muscular glam-rock bravado of the music.”

Headshrinkers – ‘The Sea Has No Friends’

Black Country-based newcomers Headshrinkers, release their new single, ‘The Sea Has No Friends‘, a stately slice of poetic rock that arrives in tandem with new EP, ‘Doorway Conversations’.

Of the story behind the track, vocalist and songwriter Garran Hickman explains:

“It was quite the reflective day when I wrote that piece. Words and melody were both written in half an hour. It’s just two entwined memories really: one is of my older relatives sharing stories of their loved ones in the war, and secondly the opening line, ‘the sea has no friends’, are words my dad used to describe the sea.”

Final Stair – ‘Dreamhunter’

Berlin based three-piece Final Stair announce the launch of their new single and video, ‘Dreamhunter’.

The band comments: “Every person pursues big goals, ambitions or a lifelong dream. But these are not always achievable, as they are made more difficult by hurdles or fate. Even if you fail in striving for your goals and dreams, you are always first and foremost a wonderful and unique person.”

NECK OF THE WOODS FESTIVAL REVIEW

As May draws to a close, the traditional UK Festival season commences. Of course 2022 is the first full season in three long years following the pandemic-related disruption to the 2020 and 2021 summers.

It must be fate then that as we journey towards Earlham Park in Norwich, the skies are grey and the rain begins to fall. It wouldn’t be the UK summer without some of the wet stuff now would it?

Our destination on this chilly spring Sunday is a new venture called Neck of the Woods. The one day festival sees organisers take over a venue vacated by yesterdays Let’s Rock Retro Festival.

I’ve long championed the notion that Norwich needs an indie/rock festival and if tagging along to this existing event makes one viable then I’m all for it. Line-up wise Neck of the Woods is certainly going for the growing younger indie crowd with only headliners The Kooks of a certain vintage.

Access is quick and easy and the atmosphere once inside is nice and relaxed. The usual overpriced festival food and bars are present as are four stages of music.

Given the ongoing cost of living crisis it’s somewhat disappointing yet fully expected post-pandemic that food and drink prices have increased since last year. A hot dog, fries and a can of pop coming to a staggering £14.50! As I say, expected given the past couple of years, but a little frustrating.

The site is setup well for a one day event with the stages spread out between two different areas, each with one outdoor and one tented stage. As expected there is some sound bleed at times, but nothing too invading.

There are a handful of stalls and other activities scattered around the site, with ample facilities such as toilets plus a separate VIP area. Thankfully there are no major queuing issues all day with the amount and distribution of everything on site seemingly well measured.

That’s the amenities taken care of then, now onto the music! That is after all why we are all in this field, with a little sunshine now poking through.

Opening the main stage are local favourites Youth Killed It who do a fantastic job in getting the early attendees engaged. Their unique brand of indie punk captures the imagination of the young audience and shows great promise for a band coming into their own.

The main stage and the tented second stage, sponsored by local venue The Waterfront, alternate meaning eager music aficionados can catch an endless stream of musical pleasures if their legs can hold them. We are able to hold this pace for the first half of the event, allowing us to take in some great young acts including a fair few to have featured on our ‘Discover’ New Music Playlist!

One such act is Liverpudlian indie upstarts Rats who open the second stage with a blistering set which wins over every single person present. A glimpse into the future of indie music, and the future is once again looking bright.

Next on the main stage are The Lottery Winners who, with their great onstage banter and even better musical output, may be the perfect festival band. The group have the audience in the palm of their hands throughout their short set and leave the crowd wanting more, which is all you can really hope to do.

Another enthralling act grace the second stage next with their superb 80’s tinged Synth-Pop are Deco. This is a name that is popping up on many a festival line-up this summer and is certainly one to watch out for.

Also on the one to watch list is the fabulous Lauran Hibberd who has been making waves for a couple of years now. Hibberd is preparing to release her debut album later this year, and on the evidence of today it is set to be a big one. Fully expect to see this name playing higher up festival bills next summer!

The Royston Club continue the hot streak of great young bands at Neck of the Woods next with another top showing in the tent. With many fans seemingly already in the know, the band are able to create a fun atmosphere as our legs begin to tire.

No time for rest just yet as we return to the main stage for a band that feel on the cusp of something really big. The Snuts hit the number one spot with their debut album and recently played some huge shows across the country including Brixton Academy.

Songs such as ‘All Your Friends’, ‘Always’ and ‘Glasgow’ from that album feel like they were made with days like today in mind. With the sun now making regularly scheduled appearances from behind the cloud and the crowd fully in the festival spirit, the band go down as expected. A hero’s reception for a group surely destined to headline this sort of event.

Now after that relentless run of superb music, we must stop and retreat to check out the VIP offerings. With a private bar and toilets along with ample seating including a good view of the main stage, the VIP area is basically what you’d expect at a festival; nothing too fancy but a nice place to chill out.

But whilst we rest, the music doesn’t. The organisers have done well to secure a line-up featuring some of the best new bands on the scene with a splattering of larger acts to draw the crowds.

Whilst we relax we get to enjoy dodie who offers something slightly different to the indie lad rock predominantly featured. An enjoyable set from dodie allows us time to recuperate before another onslaught of music.

We pick things back up towards the top of the bill now with Sea Girls on the main stage. Sea Girls are a band that I’ve heard of but never actually listened to. Not really knowing what to expect, the band are able to quickly get my attention. They also have the attention of the majority of the attendees with a clear connection existing between band and fans.

Their time on stage sails by very quickly which is usually a good sign, and with their name featuring on many festivals this summer, I feel they’ve earned a little more attention from me before I hopefully see them again.

In fact, one of my favourite things about festivals is discovering new music. I’d like to say NOISY on the third stage are a new discovery but they’ve actually featured on our ‘Discover’ New Music Playlist already. That said catching them live here gives new emphasis to their music as the band play one of the most energetic and passionate sets of the day.

Perhaps this energy and passion is what make our sub-headliners DMA’s fall a little flat having to follow them. Another band that I’ve not personally delved too deeply in before, I can’t say that are able to grab me as much as many others have today. A slower paced set perhaps wasn’t what the doctor ordered following NOISY in a small tent and prior to Yonaka in the big tent.

DMA’s are pleasant enough and perhaps do deserve deeper inspection, but as the weather gets colder and the feet start to ache, they struggle to capture my imagination today.

That was never going to be a problem for our second stage headliners Yonaka however! This after all is a band built on energy and passion, a band whose bond with the audience is synergetic.

Arriving slightly late on stage, the band power through their set which just adds even further impedance and immediacy to their performance. A sublime mixture of the stunning and the powerful encapsulates Yonaka as they deliver the likes of ‘Ordinary’, ‘Call Me a Saint’ and the incredible ‘Rockstar’.

Fans in attendance have probably just witnessed the performance of the day, but having slightly overrun it’s time to leg it back to the main stage where The Kooks have just arrived for their headline performance.

Their setlist tonight features debut album ‘Inside In/Inside Out’ predominantly to celebrate its 15^th anniversary. Adding in a few hits from that albums successors makes for a pretty great festival setlist.

Opening with ‘Seaside’ and ‘See the World’, the band instantly have the crowd in hand. They are able to maintain this connection throughout their performance which is more than worthy of the headline slot.

By the time ‘Naïve’ closes their set and sends the fans off into the night, it is very much job achieved both for The Kooks and for Neck of the Woods. Norwich does need an event like this, and whilst far from sold out, the event is well enough attended to be deemed a successful debut.

Hopefully Neck of the Woods can build on this solid start, build their brand and bring some of the biggest indie acts to Norwich in the coming years. Most importantly though I hope that they maintain the focus on new bands!

Today has been a day of discovery, finding great new acts before enjoying a handful of the best indie acts around at the moment; the perfect mix. I’d imagine we will be hearing a lot more from a number of these acts over the coming years, and hopefully we will be back at Earlham Park next year.

Ash announce special ‘Free All Angels’ shows

Welcome everyone to another edition of our weekly music News Report, where we share the best music news from the past week. We start this week with a real smorgasbord of tour announcements.

First up, is the above special set of shows from Ash. The band will play 3 ‘Free All Angels’ 21st Anniversary Shows in Manchester, Birmingham and London this September!

Drummer Rick McMurray had the following to say: “We’re delighted to announce that we will be commemorating the 21st anniversary of the release of our 2001 classic, Free All Angels. Not least because we will be joined by the fourth member of Ash, guitarist extraordinaire, all-round Shining Light, the one and only, Charlotte Hatherley. Can. Not. Wait.”

October Drift – ‘Webcam Funerals’

October Drift released their latest single, ‘Webcam Funerals’, this week ahead of their new album, ‘I Don’t Belong Anywhere’ on September 23rd. You can listen to the track above, and pre-order the album here.

“I don’t want to go into too much detail out of respect,” begins Kiran, “but this song was written at the time of losing a friend during the height of the pandemic and lockdown. She passed after a long battle with cancer. Her son, a very close friend of mine, was living with me at the time of the funeral.

I watched online from my front room, while many others did the same from their homes. This song was a response to the strangeness and sadness of friends and family members not being able to be at the funeral or there for each other at that time.”

TV Priest – ‘It Was Beautiful’

TV Priest have shared new single, ‘It Was Beautiful’, taken from forthcoming album ‘My Other People’ out 17th June. You can listen to the track above.

Vocalist Charlie Drinkwater says of the single, “‘It Was Beautiful’ is a love song about the past, present, and future. A reminder that love is the most essential thing. The words came fast; it was recorded in a single emotive session, the first song we wrote together after my family had gone through a difficult experience and I think you can hear that in the kind of melancholy euphoria that plays out as the song progresses. In some ways it’s a coda to the whole album; a reminder to guard your hope fiercely.”

APHYXION – ‘Not Gonna Make It’

APHYXION have released their latest single, ‘Not Gonna Make It’, which you can check out above.

The band elaborate on the theme of the track:

“‘Not Gonna Make It’ is a song about broken love – a sad reflection of a relationship that once was – and trying to clutch at a straw while drowning in emotions. We never really touched the subject of love in our songs before. While our lyrics have constantly been circling around dystopic subjects both on a worldly and on a personal level, we simply wanted to embrace our emotions and thoughts from a new perspective.

While trying to leave a very black and white way of seeing things, we want to explore the polarity of emotions – where both love and hate co-exist because of their mutually dependent nature.”

Just Mustard share new single ‘Seed’

Just Mustard – ‘Seed’

We close this segment of our News Report with the latest single from Just Mustard. You can listen to ‘Seed’ above, and order their new album, ‘Heart Under’ here.

Guitarist Mete Kalyoncuoglu shares more on the song’s inspiration: “Along with a lot of electronics and noise, I was listening to a lot of music which featured bowed string instruments. I had finished reading ‘The Rest Is Noise’ by Alex Ross around the time we started writing and I was revisiting a lot of the 20th century composers that I first discovered watching Kubrick’s films, like Krzysztof Penderecki. The rising tempo strikes at the beginning of ‘Seed’ were inspired from the rising and falling xylophone in Béla Bartók’s ‘Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta’.”

Chappaqua Wrestling – ‘Full Round Table’

Chappaqua Wrestling have shared their first new single of 2022, and first with new label EMI, ‘Full Round Table’.

The band explains: ‘We wrote Full Round Table as a reaction to the endless negativity put in our faces about our generation’s future. So much news is greeted with the response of how screwed we are – hopeless views from unhelpful people.

Negativity about youth is relative per generation but today it feels stronger. We want to ignore the cynicism, get together, appreciate what really matters, and not let people tell us what we can’t do. The Full Round Table is full of our friends, and that’s not changing.’

Fixation – ‘More Alive’

As Fixation prepare to release their debut album, they return with new single, ‘More Alive’.

“I wanted to highlight the negative effect social media can have om human relations. It’s harrowing how we spend more time maintaining our online facades, than taking care of our real-life relationships.

Pale Waves reveal UK Tour, debut new single and announce new album

Welcome everyone to another edition of our weekly music News Report, and it has been as huge news week for fans of Pale Waves!

This week saw the band announce a new UK Tour to take place in November. The run of dates will include a huge show at the O2 Brixton Academy in London.

That isn’t it though, as the band also announced that they will be releasing their third album, ‘Unwanted’, this August.

They also debuted the first single from the album, ‘Lies’, which you can check out below.

“‘Lies’ is about someone who built up my trust and destroyed it like a wrecking ball,” says frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie. “it caused some real trust issues, but fortunately for me that person is no longer in my life. Once you do me wrong you’re gone!”

Pale Waves have been on a personal and artistic journey since the release of their debut album ‘My Mind Makes Noises’ in 2018. These experiences have begun to inform their songs in recent years and are what jump to the fore on ‘Unwanted’.

“It was really the only thing this album could be called,” says Baron-Gracie, now 27. “It’s bold and unapologetic, and that’s what the Pale Waves community is about. We don’t need to fit a perfect mould, we don’t need to apologise for being ourselves, and we won’t change for anyone. That acceptance is what connects us.”

IDLES announce only UK headline show this year

Continuing to focus on show and tour announcements in our News Report, we move on to IDLES.

The band announced this week that they will be playing the HMV Empire in Coventry in June. The show is the only remaining UK headline show this year!

The Virginmarys announce new UK Tour

Also announcing a lengthy tour around the UK this week were The Virginmarys.

The duo will play 13 shows this October following the release of their latest single, ‘The Meds’, recently.

Neck of the Woods Festival announces final wave of acts

A singular piece of music festival news in our News Report this week and it comes from new Norwich event Neck of the Woods Festival.

Just a couple of weeks ahead of the event Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison and others have been announce for the fourth stage.

They join headliners The Kooks plus the likes of The Snuts, Lottery Winners, Yonaka, Little Comets and many more.

Five Finger Death Punch announce new album ‘Afterlife’

Five Finger Death Punch – ‘IOU’

We move our News Report onwards now on to the new releases from this past week, and we start with Five Finger Death Punch.

The metal icons this week revealed that their new album, ‘Afterlife’, will be released on August 19th. In announcing the album, the band also debuted new track, ‘IOU’, which you can check out above.

“AFTERLIFE was hands down my favorite record to make.” says 5FDP guitarist Zoltan Bathory and continues: “It is our ninth album so at this point, we have legions of loyal fans, and our signature sound is more than established. It became its own island, our ground zero we operate from and we can always come back to. So when we started this record, there was an excitement of impending musical adventures, we knew we could step away as far as we wanted to, there was a freedom of truly “anything goes.”

This resulted in an album that is way more diverse than our previous ones, while it feels more unified, because there is a framework of overarching stories in Ivan’s lyrics and interconnecting musical motifs between songs. It was not planned as a concept album, but we were so hyper-focused on painting a complete picture, it somehow feels like one… We are very proud of it and are just as impatient as the fans waiting for the release, can’t wait to share it.”

Perhaps the most exciting new music revelation this week was the return of My Chemical Romance with their first single in many years.

The HU debut ‘This Is Mongol’

The HU – ‘This Is Mongol’

The HU also had new music to present this week as the band debuted new track, ‘This Is Mongol’. You can listen to the track above, which comes ahead of their highly anticipated sophomore album due this summer.

Speaking about the video, singer and tumur hhuur player Jaya said, “We shot in the Mojave Desert, Nevada and the environment reminded us of Gobi Desert in Mongolia. We enjoyed shooting the video, which happened during our tour and gave us a little break to reminisce about home. The song perfectly matched the environment we made the video in. It was one of the best memories we created as a band and it was special because our producer Dashka was with us to oversee the whole process.”

The Lounge Society – ‘Blood Money’

The Lounge Society have announced that their debut album, ‘Tired of Liberty’, will arrive August 29th. This week they debuted new track ‘Blood Money’.

The band comments: “Blood Money is a reaction to the culture of greed that’s seeping into the corridors of power across the world. It’s a reminder that ultimately, we all suffer at the hands of self-serving elites, and it’s our personal perspective on the effects of dirty politics on the everyday lives of ourselves and people we know.

For us it’s a song that completely captures this record and us as a band. It feels like the perfect development from our previous releases to our debut album and exactly how this record should be introduced. The balance of driving guitar riffs and the groove of the drums and bass is sort of a snapshot of the album. We’d never claim to be a purely dance based band and we’d never claim to be a purely guitar riff-based band because it’s the combination of the two which excites us.

On Blood Money it felt like in the studio we took our sound to a different level. We approached the album recording in a totally fresh way to how we have recorded in the past and we got exactly what we wanted.

We had good friends & Speedy label mates of ours Anouska (Honeyglaze) and Jojo (Heartworms) do some extra vocals in the chorus, and it really elevated it and gave it an almost operatic feel which was amazing to see develop in the studio.”

Call to the Faithful – ‘The Problem’

Fierce UK Rockers Call to the Faithful return with their first offering of 2022, ‘The Problem’.

The band says: “The Problem is biographical account of the miserable situation so many of us find ourselves in, unable to break free of living paycheck to paycheck while being continuously belittled by a generation so detached from modern struggles that they provide useless solutions like “simply work harder” and “don’t waste your money at Starbucks”.

smallmint – ‘The Dark’

Northern Ireland stalwart’s smallmint have unveiled their new single, ‘The Dark’, plucked from debut LP ‘where we all end up in the end’.

Speaking of the album’s production, Cameron-Braithwaite says:

“We wanted the album to feel natural and to actually sound like a band playing live in a room, which is exactly how it was recorded. It was important for us to keep that space and energy in the recordings — no need for overproduction or too many overdubs, so that the arrangement of the music and the emotion within the lyrics could speak for themselves.”

Dub War share new single ‘War Inna Babylon’

Dub War – ‘War Inna Babylon’

Fusion metal pioneers Dub War this week debuted their new single, ‘War Inna Babylon’ and you can listen above. The track features guest vocals from Roger Ranking of The Beat.

This song comes ahead of their new album, ‘Westgate Under Fire’ which arrives August 5th.

Speaking on the track and collaborating with Ranking Roger, Webbe says, “The original song by Max Romeo was in my family record collection as far back as I can remember. When meeting Ranking Roger, we discussed how punk rock and dub reggae had a massive influence on our lives. This song for us both was a massive hit, and we spoke about doing a collaboration and reviving the original with that Clash/The Ruts British punk rock energy to it.

Sadly, not long after we got to record the song with Roger, he passed away. But this song is one that we are very proud of, and we didn’t just do a cover – we really made this unique cover of “War Inna Babylon” our own.”

Dundalk five-piece Just Mustard share new single, ‘Mirrors’ taken from upcoming album, ‘Heart Under’.

Guitarist and “Mirrors” co-vocalist David Noonan says of the single: “”Mirrors”” was one of the final songs to be written for Heart Under, the lyrics and music arrived together in what felt like one moment and we wanted to keep the feeling of one thought or moment constant throughout the song”.

‘INSTRUCTION MANUAL’ – ALL BETTER

Brighton’s alt-punk trio All Better join the playlist with their single ‘Instruction Manual’. The song features on upcoming debut album, ‘How To Be Alone’ which arrives May 6th.

‘RESTITUTION’ – MODES

Kent metallers MODES feature with their new single, ‘Restitution’.

MODES frontman Ted Berry reveals that the new single “is a song that stems from difficult times that we have seen our closest friends and loved ones go through. Needing to give them support and a shoulder to lean on, while feeling that we can’t explain how or why we know what it’s like to be there because in that moment it’s not about us ,it’s about helping them”

‘BLESSED BE THY’ – WITCH FEVER

Witch Fever return with new single, ‘Blessed Be Thy’.

Bassist Alex Thompson says of the track, “it just goes heavy”, as it boasts a crunchy wall of noise akin to bands like Show Me The Body and Gilla Band

Alex adds, “it was literally the last song we wrote before we went into the studio but came together really quickly. I think it still has an essence of some of our older material, so it’s a good way to bridge the gap.”

‘I KNOW WHEN YOU LEAVE’ – GUISE

Ahead of the release of their debut album ‘Youngest Daughter’, ‘I Know When You leave’ is the latest offering from London-based GUISE is a dazzling, vocal harmony led track that sees the foursome joined by singer-songwriter Emily Barker.

Discussing the story behind the heartfelt new track Jessica explains “I wrote the words to ‘I Know When You Leave’ on a bus in Italy, and the tune came to me later back in London, Separation from the person I love is a pretty normal part of my life, but that doesn’t make it easy all the time; things are generally just a bit worse when we’re apart, and that’s what this is about.”

‘BLACKMOSS’ – SCRUFFY BEAR

Playlist and Podcast alumni Scruffy Bear return with new single, ‘Blackmoss’.

“The world is a proper heavy place. I hate that everything is spun so negatively and we are trained to look for the worst in people and situations. Blackmoss is trying to work through the mud of confusion that everything is in and not getting too bogged down with it, but also learning to be open to other people’s experiences” – Lead singer Georgy Eaton

‘SET THIS PLACE ON FIRE’ – 3REE

Australian pop punk duo 3REE have released their brand new single ‘Set This Place On Fire’, featuring guest vocals from Sleeping With Sirens frontman Kellin Quinn.

“We’re living our childhood dream!”, 3REE say about their collaboration with Kellin. “It was amazing to collaborate with such an idol of ours.”

Continuing about how the collaboration came about 3REE drummer Sean Tighe explains, “When we were writing the song, we could hear Kellin’s voice as a perfect fit with Mitch’s. I simply messaged Kellin the song and asked if he’d be interested and how wonderful it would be. Kellin’s response was fantastic, saying “WOW! This song is a banger” and “I can track my vocals by the end of the week”. We had to pinch ourselves.”

About the meaning of the song 3REE vocalist and guitarist Mitch Volcan says, “We built the song around the lyric ‘When the fire burns out we all come alive’; writing with the aim of connecting with the listener with the sense of rawness, energy and togetherness that you face during dark times.”

‘PARIS WILL BE PAID FOR’ – ANORAK PATCH

With debut EP ‘By Cousin Sam’ out at the end of this month, teenagers Anorak Patch have shared new single ‘Paris Will Be Paid For’.

On the new single, guitarist Oscar said, “Paris will be paid for is a song of ours which combines pop hooks and more off kilter music. It’s at a constant tempo however it changes time signatures multiple times throughout the song. It makes it wonky and the more melodic parts can sort of too because of that.”

He adds, “The lyrics, like the music itself, are absurd and silly. Nothing is taken too seriously and is all very tongue in cheek and a joke. We find lyrics don’t often have to be about much, as long as the syllables fit and there’s a nice melody.”

‘TENNIS’ – COURTING

Liverpool four-piece Courting have returned with a new single titled ‘Tennis’.

Speaking about the single, the band says, “Tennis is a paypig’s personal redemption narrative, set in “the city”, and told in two parts. A twisted tale of two lovers’ back and forth, bound by cricket, bodybuilding, and money. A story as old as time.

We named the song Tennis as a logical (but unrelated) sequel to our two previously released sports-related songs. To us, this felt like a natural ending to that idea. Dynamically, the second part of the song is supposed to represent a shift in tone for the character in which they realise their own worth and leave the situation that is set within the first part of the song.”

Muse set to perform to intimate Charity Shows this May

Kendal Calling reveal full line-up

Another festival completing their line-up this week was Kendal Calling. Having recently added Bastille to existing headliners Supergrass, Stereophonics and The Kooks, the event has now added many more new acts to a packed bill.

TV Priest debut ‘Bury Me In My Shoes’

TV Priest – ‘Bury Me In My Shoes’

Finally, TV Priest this week announced new album, ‘My Other People’, will be out on 17th June. You can listen to new single, ‘Bury Me In My Shoes’ above.

Frontman Charlie Drinkwater says of the album, “My Other People is a more “open’” set of songs, both musically and in our themes; in the process of writing we found ourselves talking about things other than anger or aggression. We wanted to discuss love, loss and joy too. It’s a record about personal disintegration and destruction, but also rebuilding again after this. It’s also heavily rooted in place, the music being a very direct response to Britain and England in 2021, but in a more abstract and textural sense. A muddy field viewed from a train window between cities, a patch of wild flowers growing next to a motorway, sticky carpets in a suburban flat roof pub, pissing rain on an August bank holiday and the smell of diesel in an out of town supermarket car park. An angry, hopeful, shitty, beautiful island.”

As for the new single, he adds, “‘Bury Me In My Shoes’ is a hangover of a song. Last year was about reminding ourselves to hang on to good things; to remember you can love and hate in equal measure. That the answers are rarely found by looking backwards. “Bury Me” was written as a response to that general feeling of unease and creeping dread. A feeling you get from bad news on no breakfast.”

Yes, Worthy Farm is set for a spectacular celebration this June which will be headlined by Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney, Kendrick Lamar and Diana Ross.

Placebo unveil new single ‘Happy Birthday In The Sky’

Placebo – ‘Happy Birthday In The Sky’

Another huge act readying the release of a new album is Placebo. This week they released their latest single, ‘Happy Birthday In The Sky’, which you can listen to above.

Commenting on the track frontman Brian Molko says:

“Happy Birthday In The Sky for me, is one of the more heartbreaking moments on the album. Happy Birthday In The Sky is a phrase that I’ve been using for quite some time. When I say, happy birthday to people who aren’t with us anymore, it communicates the kind of heartbreak that we’re really, really good at communicating I think. You know that sense of loss, that sense of desperation. It’s as if a part of your body and your soul has been ripped from you unfairly. And you pine and you pine, and you wait.

What I am thinking is that this is kind of so visceral and so intense emotionally that it’s really going to communicate something very powerful to the listener. And that’s basically all I’m interested in. At what cost? Who cares. As long as the song really, really moves people, then whatever sacrifices you have to make in order to get there are fine with me. It’s not such a bad thing to inhabit these emotions – you’re very, very much alive and in the moment while you’re doing so.”

Their new album, ‘Never Let Me Go’ arrives on March 25th.

October Drift debut ‘Insects’

October Drift – ‘Insects’

A couple of bands next who we recently featured on our ‘Discover’ New Music Playlist on Spotify. Firstly October Drift who returned with new track, ‘Insects’ this week which you can listen to above.

Regarding ‘Insects’ vocalist and guitarist Kiran Roy says, “It’s a coming-of-age song, about feeling life pull you in different directions. It’s about growing up but finding yourself smaller and more up against it than ever. I wrote the lyrics after visiting the Kelvingrove museum in Glasgow and seeing all the Victorian butterflies and beetles pinned up on display.”

The latter is reflected in lyrics of the powerful chorus as Kiran sings, “We’re still insects pinned to walls, trying to crawl, trying to crawl”.

James and the Cold Gun – ‘It’s Mutual’

The second of those ‘Discover’ New Music bands in our News Report this week is James and the Cold Gun who this week released new track ‘It’s Mutual’, which you can check out above.

Speaking of our ‘Discover’ New Music’ Playlist, let’s see who has been added this week!

‘Don’t Come Back’ – Guise

The first track added to the playlist this week is the brand new single from Guise. You can check out ‘Don’t Come Back’ now on the playlist.

The single comes ahead of their debut album, ‘Youngest Daughter’ which will be released through Xtra Mile Recordings on April 29th.

‘Lies’ – Cosmic Ninja

The next band added this week is Cosmic Ninja with their track ‘Lies’. The single features on their forthcoming new EP, ‘Dissident Transmission’ which arrives on April 8th.

Commenting on the track, the band said: “‘Lies’ is about the dishonesty and corruption rife in UK politics. The endless lies and lack of integrity has reached an extreme level—we are fearful of the consequences and the damage it is doing to society. Politics has lost sight of trying to make a better place for everyone and, instead, those with influence climb to the top and pull up the ladder by any means necessary.”

“In most lines of work, you would be held accountable for lies, but, for politicians, it seems acceptable practice; a tool that is extremely effective in misleading and wrongly influencing public opinion. This song is about calling out those lies, seeing through the misconception and positively challenging those walking blindly through corruption.”

‘Love Kills The Demons’ – Krush Puppies

Finally this week we have added the new track from Krush Puppies, ‘Love Kills The Demons’. The band will release their debut EP of the same name on May 6th.

It’s an acknowledgment from vocalist and bassist Alexa about the night terrors she had for years, where she’d be up all night seeing shapes in the darkness. Then she met someone and suddenly it all went away as if his presence made her feel safe.

Alexa explains, “This faceless shadowy figure would sit at the end of the bed and wake me by pushing on my chest so that I was gasping for air. I used to be up all night, then I met someone and suddenly I started sleeping all the way through, soundly next to him. I guess I suddenly felt safe, which feels very soppy now I’m having to write it down. But I can’t describe this overwhelming sense of peace that I felt almost instantly. I came into the studio with the chords and melody, then we all finished it that day. A few weeks later we recorded it with John Bisset, and Jenny and I sang the whole song together in unison, so our voices kind of blended to make one. It almost sounds like a whole new band member.”

Fatherson continue to build towards new album, ‘Normal Fears’, which arrives April 1st with new single, ‘Better Friend’.

Speaking on the single, frontman Ross Leighton says, “”Better friend is about losing touch with people when you’re growing up and wishing you were better at staying in touch. Sometimes life gets in the way, but if the last few years has taught me anything life is better with the people you love.

It’s an anthem about friendship and an apology for letting it slip. It was the first song that I wrote for Normal Fears in my old bedroom in Kilmarnock and it really felt like the first normal fear I had going into the record. It became this reference point for melody and groove that the rest of the record built on.

I think everybody has felt a bit out of sorts before and gotten themselves into a space where they lose touch with people that are close to them. This song for me is a reminder to just get back in touch and start to rebuild. I love it!”

Yes, this week has seen the team up of megastar Ed Sheeran and the constantly evolving Bring Me The Horizon. Following a noted performance at the Brit Awards the pair this week officially released the single, ‘Bad Habits’.

Simple Plan team with Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley on ‘Ruin My Life’

Simple Plan – ‘Ruin My Life’ feat. Deryck Whibley

Sticking with collaborations and this week also saw Simple Plan debut their new single ‘Ruin My Life’. The track also features Sum 41‘s Deryck Whibley and comes ahead of an expected new album later this year.

“‘Ruin My Life’ is a song about overcoming adversity, going through a difficult life situation, and not only surviving it, but becoming an even stronger and more resilient version of yourself because of it,” the band shares. “It’s fun, catchy, energetic and empowering and we’re so excited to share it with our fans. Having Deryck from Sum 41 sing on it with us makes it even more special!

Fontaines D.C. unveil new single ‘I Love You’

Fontaines D.C. – ‘I Love You’

Having recently announced the upcoming release of new album, ‘Skinty Fia’, on April 22nd, Fontaines D.C. this week unveiled new single, ‘I Love You’.

Described as ostensibly a love song, ‘I Love You’ is written from the perspective of an Irishman abroad, unravelling to reveal a passionate sense of self-loathing. Frontman Grian Chatten describes the song as “the first overtly political song we’ve written.”.

You can check out the video above as Chatten elaborates, “It’s standing in the centre of our beloved home country as a multitude of things are brought to tragic ends in an apocalyptic state of affairs. That’s how it feels to me, and what I felt when I wrote it.”

Chubby and the Gang reveal new EP ‘Labour of Love’

Chubby and the Gang – ‘Who Loves Ya (Coup d’état)’

There was also new music this week from West London 5-piece Chubby and the Gang. The group celebrated Valentine’s Day with the digital release of new EP ‘Labour of Love’.

The EP features new single ‘Who Loves Ya (Coup d’état)’ which you can watch the video for above. Frontman Charlie Manning says of the song: “We had the idea to do a Valentine’s Day single and I sort of wanted to show all the angles of love. Warts and all. Quite often it’s not such a smooth experience. Can often feel scary and insane. So I wanted to write a bubblegum song about it but also show the duality of the emotion.”.

Nine Inch Nails heading to Cornwall

The biggest news this week came with the revelation that the iconic Nine Inch Nails will be heading to Cornwall this June for not one but two shows at the Eden Project.

TRNSMT Festival reveals updated line-up

Festival announcements now in our News Report and it’s over to Scotland for the latest line-up reveal from TRNSMT Festival.

The event is set to be headlined by Paolo Nutini, The Strokes and Lewis Capaldi, with huge slots scheduled for Sam Fender, Foals, Wolf Alice, The Snuts and Fontaines D.C..

Day and Stage splits have now been revealed with highlights set to include The Regrettes, Jimmy Eat World, Maximo Park, Self Esteem and Wet Leg.

‘Pity’ – Out of Love

London punks Out of Love preview their upcoming debut LP, ‘So Far, So Good’ with new single ‘Pity’. Frontman Jack Rogers says “Pity is an observation about a person I know who does nothing but moan about life. It’s a response to the toxic outlook they have on the world and how I want nothing to do with them anymore. Even though cutting that person out from my life will be hard and conflicting, it’s necessary to surround myself with like-minded, forward-thinking people.

“It’s hard to watch someone you care about be so set in their ways and do very little to try and change even after helping them time and time again. Pity is a reminder for me to never turn into that person.”

‘Delirious’ – South Haven

Copenhagen natives South Haven debut new single, ‘Delirious’. Vocalist Christine Nielsen comments,“This song has a special place in my heart because I think the lyrics are open for interpretation. Personally, I interpret the song to be about dealing with a lot of difficult emotions all at once and not being able to get rid of them, which results in a feeling of deliriousness. The music video seeks to show this state of mind with the use of different locations and short and quick shots. Although it seeks to emphasize this, it also portrays a sort of beauty in the chaos with the use of neutral and calm colors and lighting”.

‘Turn It Up!’ – Romero

Melbourne’s power-pop group Romero preview their debut album with the title track, ‘Turn It Up!’. Singer Alanna Oliver reflects on the single, “I was watching a Debbie Harry [Blondie] documentary and one of the quotes was ‘she just gets on stage and she turns it on’. As soon as I heard this I paused it and started writing. The lyrics flowed effortlessly. It was such a simple idea to channel that inner power. When I sing this song I am now a woman who knows what she wants and how to get it.”
