SLASH FEAT. MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS – 4 – ALBUM REVIEW
Nobody could’ve predicted the match made in heaven between Slash and Myles Kennedy back in 2010 when Kennedy featured on the guitarists’ debut solo album. Soon enough however it was evident to those that mattered and Kennedy was chosen to front the live band and contribute an additional song.
Now, here we are some 10+ years later and that solo project has morphed into the mouthful that is Slash feat. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, and the group are releasing their fourth album together, simply titled ‘4’.

Yes a lot can change in 10 years of course, and despite Slash now finding himself back in Guns N Roses, this collective is just too good to leave in the past. The band has grown in cohesiveness and credibility and with the addition of ‘4’ they now have a solid back catalogue themselves. So much so, that they no longer need to rely so heavily on GNR tracks live.
‘4’ continues the momentum created by its predecessors and kicks straight in with single ‘The River Is Rising’ setting the foundations for another 45 minutes of good old reliable rock and roll.
For ‘4’ the band has worked with renowned country producer Dave Cobb and mixed up their recording practices with the album captured as live, but the result remains very much a SMKC record. Do you want old school rock and roll? Well, you got it! You want blistering guitar solos? Naturally! You want Kennedy’s sublime soaring vocals? It’s all here on ‘4’.
With new Guns N Roses songs not instantly hitting it off, we should be glad that this group remains a viable vessel for this legendary guitarist and his band of mercenaries to deliver the effortlessly groovy and dirty rock n rock that we want.
Welcome back to our weekly music News Report as 2022 begins to kick into gear! We’ll start our first News Report of the year with a couple of festival announcements…
Firstly, Slam Dunk Festival this week revealed their final headliner for this years edition will be festival favourites Neck Deep. Joining them at the top of the bill are previously announced Alexisonfire, Dropkick Murphys and Sum 41.
Also announced this week were Cancer Bats, The Bronx, The Summer Set, Point North, Mom Jeans and As December Falls. They join the likes of The Used, Deaf Havana, Hot Milk and Dream State on a packed bill.
It’s on to the latest new music now as our News Report continues. Muse treated their fans to outlandish new single, ‘Won’t Stand Down’ this week. Complete with a crazy video which you can view above, the song provides the first glimpse at the next phase for the iconic band.
There are plenty of new tracks to get through this week and next up is the latest single from Placebo. ‘Try Better Next Time’ comes ahead of their brand new album, ‘Never Let Go’, which arrives March 25th.

It was a big news week for Fontaines D.C. with new arriving that their third album will be arriving 22nd April. Ahead of the release of ‘Skinty Fia’, the band also debuted the lead single ‘Jackie Down The Line’.

Welcome to another edition of our weekly music News Report. We start this week with a line-up update from Slam Dunk Festival. The event has added the likes of The Story So Far, The Amity Affliction, Dream State and Spanish Love Songs.
They join the likes of the already announced Alexisonfire, Rancid and The Used. Slam Dunk takes place in Leeds and Hatfield over the weekend of 3rd and 4th June next year.
Tour news now and up first is Yonaka. The band will finally head out on a headline UK Tour in 2022, following the release of their latest record ‘Seize the Power’. The tour will finish up at the Forum in Kentish Town and includes nine other stops around the UK and Ireland.
Plenty of tours have had to reschedule due to the pandemic, and Trivium have announced that their tour will now take place in 2023. The tour which runs through Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Brixton Academy in London will see Heaven Shall Burn and Malevolence in support.
After dropping off their support slot with The Darkness, British Lion have quickly revealed a lengthy UK Tour starting next month. Support will come from Airforce.

Slash – ‘The River Is Rising’
New music releases now in our News Report. This week saw Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators announce the release of their fourth studio album, named aptly ‘4’. The album is set for release on February 11th 2022.
Preceding the album is their brand new single, ‘The River Is Rising’, which you can listen to above.
Feeder will be releasing their latest album, ‘Torpedo’ on March 18th. This week the band debuted their new single, ‘Wall Of Silence’, which you can listen to above.
Nobody should be shocked anymore at the quality of output from Myles Kennedy. He has set a high benchmark with his work with both Alter Bridge and Slash. He then produced a stunning piece of art with his debut solo album, ‘Year of the Tiger’. Therefore it shouldn’t be a surprise where this review is heading!
The disbelief perhaps comes with that Kennedy has once again managed to capture magic. With his output stretched between various projects, you could actually forgive him for the odd misstep and maybe that time will come. But ‘The Ides of March’ certainly isn’t that time.

Despite featuring a more expansive and traditional to Kennedy sound, the record still manages to showcase Kennedy in a different way to his well known day jobs. What sets Kennedy apart is how he has now solidified a third project at a high standard. His role with Slash now far outstrips the use of the phrase side-project. Now his solo work has also reached the echelons of a main project.
It will be interesting to see how Kennedy splits himself into three going forward, but clearly his solo work now will be seen in an equally accomplished light. The likes of the titular ‘The Ides of March’ are magnificent and elevate this album to magnum opus proportions.
There is a real good mix of sounds on this album which together encompass Kennedy’s various alter egos. You could say that ‘The Ides of March’ acts like a greatest hits record, just without any of his established hits. What is meant by that is that this album would be the perfect introduction to Kennedy and the work that his astonishing voice has soundtracked.
In conclusion, ‘The Ides of March’ is Myles Kennedy at his very best, which as we know is very good indeed. The biggest challenge for Kennedy going forward will be to keep up his track record for quality.
