TWIN ATLANTIC – SEPARATION FROM THE ANIMALS – Album review
The last decade has seen the big momentum push behind Twin Atlantic stutter and stall with each of their last three records receiving mixed reactions.
This of course follows a stunning opening run of releases that threatened to elevate them to an arena level band.
Now they return with their eighth studio album, ‘Separation From The Animals’, a twelve track record shaped by frontman Sam McTrusty’s relocation to Canada following the release of their most recent album, ‘Meltdown’.

Let’s face it a lot of us would love to up sticks and head for solace, but the reality of such a move is much starker – quite literally life changing. This album explores many of the emotions and consequences of such upheaval.
There is the usual mix of heartstring pullers and dancefloor fillers spread throughout what is an emotive yet thoroughly enjoyable collection.
Given the band have never shied away from brave sonic manoeuvres, it’s intriguing that given the topic of change is central, musically this is perhaps the truest Twin Atlantic sounding album in over a decade.
Fans will find comfort in this album and the reset button being pressed on McTrusty’s life pretty much achieves the same for a band that risked fading away. Instead, this album will get you excited for what the band can still offer!
