BEARTOOTH – Pure ecstasy – album review
To say the reaction to lead single, ‘Free’, was polarising would be enormously understated whilst also failing to properly acknowledge the toxicity of portions of those reacting. Frontman Caleb Shomo would even step back from social media due to the negativity surrounding the track.
Through all of this noise, Beartooth now finally unleash their sixth studio album, ‘Pure Ecstasy’ and take their biggest sonic leap since their inception. That’s not to say that the band hasn’t shown progression across their first five records, but fans will find this album just as polarising as its first single.
With ex-Bring Me The Horizon member and in-demand producer Jordan Fish continuing his tour of the scene, the album always looked to be a new take on what Beartooth can be. When you then factor in the personal metamorphosis unveiled by Shomo during this time, then this was always going to be a giant evolutionary step for Beartooth.

Coming to terms with who he is, coming out as gay and getting divorced is the backdrop to this album release for Shomo and you can feel the emotion pouring out of each song and each lyric.
This album will forever be a moment in time for Shomo, the band and diehard fans and the album is good enough to cope with that weight. This is Beartooth evolving sure, but there are still catchy choruses, crushing riffs and headbang worthy moments galore.
If you feel that this is a step-off point in your Beartooth fandom then that’s on you but for those willing to indulge the band in a rhythm change then the rewards await!
