Weezer – weezer (Gold Album) – ALBUM REVIEW
Whether or not their latest album is their twentieth or not will depend on your personal penchant for release designation. We won’t be getting into the weeds of EP’s and LP’s however and will take the band at their word.
The difficulty is that Weezer have been so prolific over the past three decades it can be hard even for big Weezer fans to keep up. This latest self-titled album, affectionately known as the Gold Album, is however well placed within the context of their career.
Having just celebrated their 30th anniversary, it is fitting that this is as close to their early sound as we’ve had for some time.

This might be because the album is their most collaborative in recent memory. The four members shared the creative process with original member Patrick Wilson notably taking a much more active role alongside frontman Rivers Cuomo.
The result is a really fun collection with all ten tracks earning their place on the record. Opener ‘Say Yes’, and singles, ‘Shine Again’ and ‘We Might As Well Be Strangers’ may standout, but the half-hour album does fly by for all the right reasons.
It’s great to hear the band in such good form and long-term fans will feel this is an album which represents their best in years.
