Rituals have been making waves in recent months winning ‘The Deal’ and playing Download Festival. Now the band unleash their new EP, ‘I Found Myself In The Dark’ on Marshall Records as the band seek to capitalise on not just their recent successes but on years of hard graft!

On this EP, the band clearly want to show what they are all about and the ensuing eleven minutes of brutal, beautiful heavy rock hooks is a powerful statement indeed.

Each of the three tracks stands solidly on its own which only strengthens the overall package and ensures that Rituals prove their point that they have much to offer. Each crushing riff and every soaring, melodic chorus is a sonic phenomenon and you are left wanting more once the short runtime concludes.

That then must be considered a job done for the band and hopefully there will be much more to come from Rituals in the future!

YONAKA follow up their stunning 2021 Mixtape with new EP, ‘Welcome To My House’ continuing to see them spread their wings and reach for the stars!

The band have set a very high standard with their previous releases and remarkably there appears to be no end in sight with this new collection maintaining their majesty and power.

Lyrically this is a personal record as singer Theresa Jarvis literally seeks to welcome us into her house, sharing analytic insights in to a range of her feelings.

Across the seven tracks, YONAKA again sonically push their boundaries as their unique blend of heavy rock, electronic and pop music synchronises into an energetic identity which sets them apart from the pack.

Each of the tracks on this EP bring something different to the party and over the course of just north of twenty minutes the group once again showcase their immense talent. ‘Welcome To My House’ continues a journey that will surely see the band taking over the world!

When Yellowcard disbanded back in 2017, that was it, there were no plans for live shows let alone new music, it was the end of an era. Thankfully things changed when the group returned at last year’s Riot Fest.

Now the next step has arrived with the band offering new music in the shape of new EP, ‘Childhood Eyes’. The reflective record sees the band sonically embracing their 2007 album, ‘Paper Walls’, but ultimately capturing the essence of everything that made the band so loved.

The title-track of the five song EP is particularly heralding of a clichéd return to form and could be placed on any of their iconic releases and still hold its own. The other tracks will have you bouncing, they will tug on your heartstrings and will make you fall in love with the Yellowcard all over again!

‘Childhood Eyes’ is certainly Yellowcard at their finest and whets the appetite for what’s still to come.

Following somewhat in the footsteps of 2016’s ‘Popestar’ EP, Ghost are back with another collection of unexpected cover songs on new EP, ‘Phantomine’.

‘Popestar’ arrived at a crucial time in the bands career and so does ‘Phantomine’, with the band on the cusp of the upper echelons of the industry. What this EP lacks over ‘Popestar’ is a big original single to lead the EP, with this collection featuring just the five cover tracks.

In their career when Ghost have ventured into covers, they’ve displayed a knack to Ghostify the tracks covered. That again is evidenced here no better than on Genesis cover ‘Jesus He Knows Me’. Other tracks though such as Iron Maiden classic ‘Phantom of the Opera’, they stay closer to the original than perhaps wished.

Overall though the five tracks work well and this is another example of the magic that this band possesses. ‘Phantomime’ may not have the impact of ‘Popestar’ in the grand scheme of things, but it will be important in Ghost folklore, so is a must own for dedicated fans, plus, hey, who doesn’t want to hear Ghost take on Tina Turner!

On his latest album, ‘The Atheist’, Jamie Lenman demonstrated his pop sensibilities as he delivered perhaps his most accessible album yet. The outpouring of creativity that made that album has now also produced a companion EP, ‘iknowyouknowiknow’.

Given that ‘The Atheist’ was a stunning piece of art which saw Lenman soaring to new heights, it shouldn’t be a surprise that this sister release is just as magnificent.

‘iknowyouknowiknow’ sees Lenman embracing his folkier side with the acoustic guitar at the centre of some of the EP’s most delicate and beautiful tracks.

Finishing the EP with an acoustic rendition of ‘This Town Will Never Let Us Go’ is a hauntingly perfect way to close out not just the EP but the ensemble that is ‘The Atheist’ and ‘iknowyouknowiknow’.

Lenman is a genius of a songwriter who is currently operating at his very best, and this record is the bow on top of his latest masterpiece.

BLACKGOLD

Metal fans will be getting used to seeing the name BLACKGOLD on festival bills and in prominent support slots. The mysterious group released their unashamed nu-metal honouring debut EP last year and they’ve subsequently bagged support slots with Limp Bizkit and Skindred and will be making a noise at the likes of Download and 2000trees this summer.

Ahead of those appearances, the band has more music to unleash into the world with their second EP, simply title ‘Volume 2’. Picking right up where their self-titled debut record left off, this is another rambunctious blast of those nu-metal-esque riffs and rhymes.

With its highly confrontational lyrics and brash sonic outbursts this is certainly an EP to get riled up to, and would make a great gym soundtrack to get pumped to. There is more than enough here to justify the initial hype for this group, and it will be interesting to see what they have up their sleeves next.

One thing for sure, is that you will be hearing even more of the name BLACKGOLD in the coming years!

Dream State

Sometimes a band comes along and within seconds of your first listen you know that said band is going to massive. Dream State were one of those bands when they first broke through and they were well on the way to fulfilling their promise. Sadly, often things just don’t work out for those much hyped bands and it all falls apart. Again, this appeared to be the route that Dream State found themselves going down.

What is rare is for such a band to get another chance, a second coming if you will! Well, that’s exactly what is happening right now for Dream State. A major line-up reshuffle sees new vocalist Jessie Powell stepping into some tough shoes to fill. ‘Untethered’ is our first real look at what’s to come from the rejuvenated group and spoiler alert – it’s good!

Yes, that bright future may well have been rescued by the groups driving force, guitarist Aled Evans. Powell fills those intimidating shoes with relative ease as the band expand on their existing sound with hints of where they might go all over the three track sample.

All three tracks, ‘Comfort In Chaos’, ‘Taunt Me’ and ‘Chain Reactions’, stand strongly on their own but also sit nicely together on this short collection. Everything that brought the band to the fore is here with a grandiose sonic epicness underpinning the bands sound.

Dream State need to come out swinging and make a statement with this EP, and thankfully they’ve done just that!

With the release of every single, Lincolnshire’s MOSKITO have built anticipation that something special has been brewing in that neck of the woods, and now the band are unleashing their potent debut Mixtape, ‘BAD LOVE’!

Bursting out the traps with ‘Gone With The Girl Next Door’, ‘Miss Me’ and ‘Sweet Fruit’, your instantly stuck by the delicate mix of ferocity, passion, energy and swagger. Like a Frank Carter fronted Arctic Monkeys, the record packs a punch with spiky guitars and razor-sharp vocals.

It really does feel like there is something special here and ‘Bloodshot’, ‘517’ and ‘Don’t Touch My Baby’ all further evidence this over the second half of the EP. The tender ‘painkiller’ closes out the record in parallel to the intensity of what comes before and is another early glimpse of what’s on offer from this group.

For a band threatening to breakout, you couldn’t really wish for a better opening gambit. Expect to hear the name MOSKITO a lot in the future!

Upon his departure from Betraying The Martyrs, vocalist Aaron Matts was quick to reveal his next project ten56.. With the world and the music industry still in the midst of the pandemic and all the uncertainty that would bring, some may have questioned the logic in leaving an established entity to start afresh at such a time.

Clearly Matts would’ve required a great deal of faith in what he had lined up and over the past year or so that faith has paid dividends with ten56. taking the scene by storm and notching up some seriously impressive streaming metrics. A debut EP and a run of live dates have been well received and now ten56. are ready to capitalise on all that momentum with new EP ‘Downer Part.2’.

This EP is a full frontal assault on the senses with Matts’ ferocious vocals taking centre stage and underpinning the progressive sound of the group. ‘Downer Part.2’ certainly feels like a breakout moment for a band already breaking out. Yes, over a period just under twenty minutes, Matts has shown the world just why he had such faith.

Only time will truly tell, but at this point you’d have to put money on ten56. becoming one of the biggest metal acts of the next decade!

‘Tyrants’ is the debut EP from Bristol’s IOTA, who featured on our ‘Discover’ New Music Playlist back in July with their single, ‘Take It’. Four new tracks feature on this short but expansive record as the band stretch their creative legs.

The signs have been there for a while that this band can be something special and from opening track, ‘Demons’, it’s immediately apparent that this EP is a real statement from the band. Abrasive and packed full of angst, each track feels like a release from a group ready to explode.

The whole sound of the band is huge on this EP and singer Jodie Robinson really excels, with her delivery a real highlight of each track. ‘Ballet Box’, ‘Sometimes’ and ‘Control’ which make up the rest of the record evidence the progress that IOTA have made clearly – this is a band capable of breaking out in a big way!
