“Having a ā€œGreatest Hitsā€ is one of things you sort of dream about as a kid, but deep down, itā€™s more if a fantasy really. Now here we are realizing our second and we have nearly made it to half way through our career.

I was nervous about these songs. Sonically, on the originals, they were already ā€œthere.ā€ But I think like everything in our band, the years add something to the luster, and it certainly happened here!

The songs are still intact with their original selves. But I think you will feel a different energy. In a good way.”

Speaking of the track, frontman Matt Flood says, ā€œBetter Way Out is a song that relates to suicidal thoughts and tendencies. It’s a song about noticing and understanding the trials and tribulations of life, about rising above the feelings of depression and anxiety and knowing your self worth. To have somebody say that they see you and they hear you, or to have a community by your side while you go through these daily battles isn’t something afforded to everybody. So many of us can blindly walk through the barriers that we build inside our heads, alone without a shoulder to cry on or a friend to lend an ear.ā€

ā€No matter what you’ve been through and might still be going through… there are always routes out of your situation.ā€ he states. ā€œYou are strong, you are beautiful, you are loved and you are enough. Don’t walk that road alone. We all need each other.ā€

The subjects in the songs are things that frightens and worries us about the state of the world today. These are things that we want to see change in.ā€

Wilmette – ‘No One Knew’

Illinois pop punk 5-piece Wilmette has released, ‘No One Knew’, the next single off the band’s long-awaited debut full-length, ‘Hyperfocused’, out on August 4th.

Vocalist Aaron Hailey says, ā€œItā€™s about the guilt of not being able to help someone through a hard time, and the helpless feeling that comes with being there while they struggle.ā€

Guitarist Griffin Guge adds, “We tracked this song exactly halfway through the recording process. It was a point where we thought we knew where the record was going until we got to this song.

There was a lot of room to grow on the track, and we definitely got excited to experiment with a lot of cool guitar sounds. One of my favorites of which is in the bridge. We used a variety of unconventional guitar techniques as well as pedals to quite literally make it sound like the song is breaking and the building youā€™re in is coming down. I think it was very fitting for the part.”

Major Moment – ‘Overcome’

Pop-Metal band Major Moment are back with their new single ā€˜Overcomeā€™!

ā€œā€˜Overcomeā€™ was inspired by our music journey and is about prevailing over difficult times and persevering against all odds. But if we zoom out and look at our everyday lives, full of conflicts, health issues, losses, financial struggles, aspirations, wins and failures, we see a similar theme everyone can relate to, the one of pain and, as a result of overcoming it, personal growth. ā€˜Overcomeā€™ is the anthem made for all creators out there struggling to get their voices heard, doubting every day if itā€™s worth fighting for.ā€ – Vocalist, Sasha.

When we started writing I threw the idea in the hat at the last minute, picked up a guitar to try and put music to the melody in my head for the first time, and Childhood Eyes was born. Dead Man’s Whiskey return with ‘Masquerade’

Dead Man’s Whiskey – ‘Masquerade’

Dead Man’s Whiskey have this week shared their latest single, ‘Masquerade’, which you can check out above!

The single is the first track to be taken from a forthcoming new studio album, ‘In The Storm’, due out September 29th.

Vocalist Nico Rogers says,Ā ā€œ’This song has been a bit of a journey for us. In its earliest form we’ve had this song for a couple of years, although it’s grown a lot.

It’s brimming with a kind of dissatisfied energy we all had while we wrote it, in a way I think a lot of people will feel too. It’s a rallying cry against what’s happened to music right now, the three ringed circus of algorithmically generated hits that keep turning up. We know how far we are from those perfect cookie cutter artists and this song is about that dichotomy. We don’t want to conform, we make the music we love.
Ā
I think that shows in the sound too, not just on this track, but on the album as a whole. It’s heavier, darker. Like we got a little older, found a new gear, and now we’re going full throttle in it.ā€

Fixation – ‘Ignore the Disarray’

Norwegian metalcore act Fixation are now gearing up for their debut album with the release of a brand new single ‘Ignore the Disarray’.

About the new track the band states:Ā ā€œThis song is about those with a desire to control other people. It’s not about religion itself, but about those who use religion or their perception of reality to justify oppression, hate and control.ā€Ā

DEADLETTER – ‘The Snitching Hour’

DEADLETTERĀ share new single ā€˜The Snitching Hourā€™.

Lead singer Zac Lawrence comments: “Are we slowly but surely being tacitly tempted into a culture of casual betrayal? The messages we are fed, on the outside, might be read as being solely in the interest of public safety – but take a closer look, and perhaps thereā€™s a more insidious undertone to it allā€¦”

The Throwaway Scene – ‘Fake Death’

Sheffield emo rock outfit, The Throwaway Scene have released their brand new single ā€˜Fake Deathā€™.

ā€œThis track is a slight departure from my previous lyrical stylings/choices with a view of exploring narrative that was less self-centered. I think vocally it just ā€œfeelsā€ different too ā€˜cos the delivery of the lines is a lot more direct than before. Due to lifeā€™s unfortunate timing we were recording vocals on the day we found out a family member had passed so Fake Death will always be quite a personal song.ā€ – Vocalist, Oliver.

ā€œā€˜The Gang’s All Hereā€™ for me represents the brotherhood of this band. And with the addition on Erik our bond is more solid than ever. October Drift release new single ‘Webcam Funerals’

October Drift – ‘Webcam Funerals’

October Drift released their latest single, ‘Webcam Funerals’, this week ahead of their new album, ‘I Don’t Belong Anywhere’ on September 23rd. You can listen to the track above, and pre-order the album here.

“I donā€™t want to go into too much detail out of respect,ā€ begins Kiran, ā€œbut this song was written at the time of losing a friend during the height of the pandemic and lockdown. She passed after a long battle with cancer. Her son, a very close friend of mine, was living with me at the time of the funeral.

I watched online from my front room, while many others did the same from their homes. This song was a response to the strangeness and sadness of friends and family members not being able to be at the funeral or there for each other at that time.”

Kiran talks further about the track and album with us on The Full Pelt Music Podcast, which you can watch below.

TV Priest unveil ‘It Was Beautiful’

TV Priest – ‘It Was Beautiful’

TV Priest have shared new single, ā€˜It Was Beautifulā€™, taken from forthcoming album ‘My Other People’ out 17th June. You can listen to the track above.

Vocalist Charlie Drinkwater says of the single, ā€œā€˜It Was Beautifulā€™ is a love song about the past, present, and future. A reminder that love is the most essential thing. The words came fast; it was recorded in a single emotive session, the first song we wrote together after my family had gone through a difficult experience and I think you can hear that in the kind of melancholy euphoria that plays out as the song progresses. In some ways itā€™s a coda to the whole album; a reminder to guard your hope fiercely.ā€

APHYXION release new single ‘Not Gonna Make It’

APHYXION – ‘Not Gonna Make It’

APHYXION have released their latest single, ‘Not Gonna Make It’, which you can check out above.

The band elaborate on the theme of the track:

“‘Not Gonna Make It’ is a song about broken love ā€“ a sad reflection of a relationship that once was – and trying to clutch at a straw while drowning in emotions. We never really touched the subject of love in our songs before. While our lyrics have constantly been circling around dystopic subjects both on a worldly and on a personal level, we simply wanted to embrace our emotions and thoughts from a new perspective.

While trying to leave a very black and white way of seeing things, we want to explore the polarity of emotions ā€“ where both love and hate co-exist because of their mutually dependent nature.ā€

Just Mustard share new single ‘Seed’

Just Mustard – ‘Seed’

We close this segment of our News Report with the latest single from Just Mustard. You can listen to ‘Seed’ above, and order their new album, ‘Heart Under’ here.

Guitarist Mete Kalyoncuoglu shares more on the songā€™s inspiration: ā€œAlong with a lot of electronics and noise, I was listening to a lot of music which featured bowed string instruments. I had finished reading ā€˜The Rest Is Noiseā€™ by Alex Ross around the time we started writing and I was revisiting a lot of the 20th century composers that I first discovered watching Kubrickā€™s films, like Krzysztof Penderecki. The rising tempo strikes at the beginning of ā€˜Seedā€™ were inspired from the rising and falling xylophone in BĆ©la BartĆ³kā€™s ā€˜Music for Strings, Percussion and Celestaā€™.ā€

News Report

As always we close out our News Report with the latest additions to our ‘Discover’ New Music Playlist! Joining this week:

The Native – ‘Changes’

The Native return with their latest single, ‘Changes’, ahead of the band’s upcoming EP.

Singer Charlie Noordewier says, ā€œ‘Changes’ is about breaking out from the mundane cycle of life that so many find themselves stuck in, and pushing back against the people that put you down for trying to do something different.ā€

Chappaqua Wrestling – ‘Full Round Table’

Chappaqua Wrestling have shared their first new single of 2022, and first with new label EMI, ā€˜Full Round Tableā€™.

The band explains: ā€˜We wrote Full Round Table as a reaction to the endless negativity put in our faces about our generationā€™s future. So much news is greeted with the response of how screwed we are – hopeless views from unhelpful people.

Negativity about youth is relative per generation but today it feels stronger. We want to ignore the cynicism, get together, appreciate what really matters, and not let people tell us what we can’t do. The Full Round Table is full of our friends, and thatā€™s not changing.ā€™

Fixation – ‘More Alive’

As Fixation prepare to release their debut album, they return with new single, ‘More Alive’.

ā€œI wanted to highlight the negative effect social media can have om human relations. It’s harrowing how we spend more time maintaining our online facades, than taking care of our real-life relationships.

With ā€œMore Aliveā€ we hope to bring attention to this topic and help our listeners make conscious decisions on how they interact with social media.ā€ – Jonas Hansen / Vocals
