Against the current – till death & back – album review

Fans got to watch Against The Current grow up in real time after their breakthrough as teenagers. Whilst this is never easy, what fans have seen is a continuous evolution as they transcended their early pop-punk sound into a much more expansive alt rock noise.

What is surprising is that new album, ‘Till Death & Back’ is only their third studio album. The band have though regularly shared new music and singer Chrissy Costanza has dabbled recently in the solo realm.

It is great to finally have a new full-length record from the trio however, this album being their first in eight years!

The ten tracks again represent a giant leap forward for the band as they further explore the edges of their sound. The hooks are hookier, the big pop moments are poppier and the yes, those big rock riffs are rockier.

Lyrically, the songs each explore different feelings with the thread throughout being fate i.e. what’s meant to be is meant to be. Well judging by that theme, this album is fated to be a banger!

The heavy elements and intimate escapes intertwine with precision, and the album guides you along a journey from start to finish. The album proving to be worth the wait and showcasing what is a fabled maturity from a band clearly never happy to sit still.
