Yard Act

Where’s My Utopia?

Follow us on Social Media

YARD ACT – WHERE’S MY UTOPIA?

The post-punk revival of the past half decade helped to thrust Yard Act into the mainstream, seeing them score a number two charting debut album and getting to play bigger and bigger shows. Now the band are ready to unleash their sophomore record as they ask the pertinent questionā€¦ ā€˜Whereā€™s My Utopia?ā€™.

The shackles of labels are thrown off this time around as the band produce a genre-less collection of danceable self-aware bops. Whilst the aura of their debut album remains, the swagger is ramped up and the aspiration of sonic brilliance is grasped as tightly as a dropped winning lottery ticket in the wind.

The bands experience of becoming successful runs throughout the threads of the record and ensures that the lyrical themes are not simply a continuation of their political observations on ā€˜The Overloadā€™.

Yard Act – ‘We Make Hits’

What also becomes apparent as the album progresses is the quality of the songs themselves which somewhat ironically are more accessible then their previous work. The likes of ā€˜Petroleumā€™, ā€˜Dream Jobā€™ and the paradoxically titled ā€˜We Make Hitsā€™ are highly infectious, and throughout the album, the song craft is superb.

The preposterously excellent ā€˜Blackpool Illuminationsā€™ helps to conclude the record in typically poetic fashion and really showcases just what makes Yard Act a special creative force. Each track feels like it adds something and ā€˜A Vineyard for the Northā€™ is a fantastic finale to what is an outlandishly good collection.

Yard Act continue to mesmerise and ā€˜Whereā€™s My Utopia?ā€™ is a truly stunning way to follow up on their initial success. You just canā€™t help but wonder just what this band is capable of in the future!

Chris Shiflett shares ‘Damage Control’

Chris Shiflett – ‘Damage Control’

Guitar icon Chris Shiflett has shared details of his next solo album, ‘Lost At Sea’, which will arrive on October 20th.

Most of the new album was recorded in Nashville, working with his producer and collaborator Jaren Johnston, frontman of The Cadillac Three, as well as the songwriter behind nearly a dozen Number 1 country hits.

ā€œWe wrote a lot of these songs during the lockdown,ā€ recalls Shiflett, who spent much of the pandemic at home in Southern California. ā€œThen I began making trips to Nashville to work with Jaren. He and I have a lot of overlap, in terms of the music we like. We made a guitar-centric record that encapsulates everything I’ve been listening to over the years, from the most country songs I’ve ever recorded to punk rock and even songs that sound like a California version of The Clash.ā€

New single, ā€˜Damage Controlā€™, is the track heā€™s referencing, which strays further from the country influence than most of the album. Itā€™s also the only ā€˜oldā€™ tune that Johnston and Shiflett included on ‘Lost at Sea’.

ā€œAll the other tunes were written in the months leading up to recording, but when Jaren and I were sorting out which songs to do he mentioned something about The Clash and I remembered this old one Iā€™d demoed about 15 years prior,ā€ recalls Shiflett.

With its layers of reverb, pulsing percussion and Echoplex tape delay, ā€˜Damage Controlā€™ went through a number of versions before reaching its final form in the studio with Johnston.

ā€œI love that the musical inspiration on this one was late-stage Clash, but we wound up layering it with banjos and what-not. Definitely takes it somewhere else. Ska-mericana?ā€ Shiflett laughs. ā€œThereā€™s nothing better than when influences converge taking you places you never expected.ā€

ā€œWe are so excited to release our devilishly cheeky video for our latest single, ā€™Too Good At Raising Hell,ā€™ā€ announces vocalist Luke Spiller. ā€œItā€™s a song that was written about the disenchantment I felt after having a little too much fun. However, it still captures the essence of living an excessive life and all of the glorious moments that come along with it.ā€

Crobot unveil ‘Black Cat’ cover

Crobot – ‘Black Cat’

Rockers Crobot have this week unveiled their new cover of Janet Jackson’s ‘Black Cat’, which you can check out above.

Crobotā€™s Brandon Yeagley shares, ā€œEvery time we talked about covering a song, ā€˜Black Catā€™ would come up as one we wished we had written.  So, hereā€™s our chance to pay homage to the great Janet Jackson.  Itā€™s got all the things that go into the Crobot sound – bad ass riffs, a funky groove for days, and soaring high vocals. Whatā€™s not to like about this tune? Itā€™s even got cow bell!ā€

Tempt share ‘Burn Me Down’

Tempt – ‘Burn Me Down’

Tempt have shared their latest single, ‘Burn Me Down’, which you can of course check out above!

The single comes from their newly announced self-titled debut album, which is set for release on August 25th.

“Our new single ‘Burn Me Down’ delves into the intense and addictive nature of a toxic love,ā€ reveals singer Zach Allen. ā€œIt captures the bittersweet realization that someone has the power to consume you completely, even when you know it’s not healthy. It’s a raw expression of the conflicting emotions that arise when you can’t resist the fire that’s destined to burn you.”

Guitarist Harrison Marcello shares, “ā€˜Burn Me Downā€™ reflects the chaos of passion and desire. We wrote it with driving riffs and electrifying energy to capture that feeling. it’s about the kind of love that both exhilarates and destroys, and the inner turmoil we experience when we’re caught in its relentless cycle, unable to escape the allure of someone who has the power to ignite and consume us.”

Thy Art Is Murder unveil ‘Keres’

Thy Art Is Murder – ‘Keres’

Keeping it heavy next in our News Report we have ‘Keres’, the latest single from Thy Art Is Murder, which you can check out above.

The track comes from upcoming new album, ‘Godlike’, which is due for release on September 15th.

“Itā€™s not often we have this level of excitement to present a new single to the world. Keres is a metal anthem filled with grinding verses and stomping choruses, stripping down some of the complexity that may have gotten in the way of previous attempts to deliver a song of this magnitude. The Keres was an evil sprite in ancient Greek mythology that would feed on the dead, but could not participate in acts of violence. We think this behavior is as relevant in the arena of news and politics as it was on those ancient battlefields.” – Guitarist Andy Marsh

Skinny Lister debut ‘Company of the Bar’

Skinny Lister – ‘Company of the Bar’

Skinny Lister this week unveiled details of new studio album, ‘Shanty Punk’, which is due out on October 20th.

The group also debuted new single, ‘Company of the Bar’, which you can check out above.

Dan Heptinstall says: ā€œItā€™s a simple sentiment, but one that is at the heart of the Skinny Lister philosophy. This is a song that has been built for the rugged road, and we canā€™t wait to hear it belted back at us on our upcoming US and UK Tours later this year!ā€

“Shanty Punk is our concept album ā€“ and the concept is Skinny Lister. Itā€™s a pure distillation of what makes Skinny Lister tick, and perhaps a collection of songs that leans further into our folky routes than weā€™ve ventured in some years. It felt to us like it was time to touch base and celebrate the essence of the band, while at the same time ā€“ giving it a fresh and dynamic feel.ā€

Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun debut ‘Mercy Wave’

Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun – ‘Mercy Wave’

Finally in this section of our News Report this week is ‘Mercy Wave’, the latest single from Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun which you can check out above.

The track comes from upcoming new album, ‘Colour’, which is out on July 28th.

In an update to fans Lockey said of the single, “Itā€™s one of my favourite songs on the record and one of the last songs we wrote before heading in to record. In fact, lots of the instrumental parts on it were written very much in the moment, in the depths of the Cornish countryside in the darkness of December, and it developed into exactly what it needed to be; a bright and uplifting Summer anthem. Funny how those moments of darkness can produce hopefulness. Kind of the perfect fit for our record in many ways.”

“It feels exciting that this is one of the most up to date snapshots of our band. I think weā€™ve always had a multi-faceted sound which hasnā€™t always worked to our advantage but is an honest representation of who we are as musicians and our wide spanning and ever evolving influences. ā€˜Mercy Waveā€™ shows a side of the band that is possibly a bit brighter, a bit naughties indie and is reductive in its arrangement; almost a minimalist version of a classic JL&tSS tune. It has one of the biggest sing along choruses on the record and it gets stuck in my head for hours at a time.”

SnƵƵper – ‘Running’

SnƵƵper have shared new single ā€˜Runningā€™, from their debut album ‘Super SnƵƵper’!

On the track, vocalist Blair said ā€œRunning was written during the pandemic as many of our early songs were. This song was written deep in the pandemic when people began to feel hopeless and everything began to feel really scary. The George Floyd protests were happening, Trump was president, and people felt out of control as we watched our country experience the consequences of an unjust system. Political leaders were fanning the flames as people were screaming for change. All of this was happening at a time when people couldnā€™t properly take action due to pandemic restrictions. It was a horrifying feeling. Most days, all I could do was go for a long walk or run. I think sometimes thatā€™s all anyone can do when things feel out of control. We can always get out of our minds and into our bodies. Move, breathe, jump, put one foot in front of the other.ā€

DEADLETTER – ‘Degenerate Inanimate’

DEADLETTER share their new single ā€˜Degenerate Inanimateā€™!

On the single, frontman Zac Lawrence says ā€œDegenerate Inanimate alludes to the feeling of betrayal felt when someone close to you is revealed as dishonest to the bone. There’s a unique form of unease which arises from having your basic intelligence mocked, as they reveal their complete lack of decency.ā€

ā€œA Familiar Face (Of Someone I Never Knew) is an expression of childhood trauma. The main focus in lyrics within this song quotes ā€œthe end of eternal youthā€, This can be taken as upon the instance of trauma it can often feel as if your youth has been stripped away and all joy of childhood  has been tarnished.ā€ – Vocalist, Angus.

Next in our News Report is K.Flay who this week released her latest single, ‘Raw Raw’, which you can check out above.

Regarding the single K.Flay says,Ā ā€œā€˜Raw Rawā€™ is the start of my next chapter. After losing half my hearing last fall, I was faced with a sudden and intense episode of fear and vulnerability. Like, could I even make music again? Once I got into my recovery and started writing and recording, I knew that I could. And what I wanted to create was music that felt properly rock but also properly future oriented. Uninhibited and different.

ā€œWith ā€˜Raw Rawā€™ I wanted to capture what vulnerability really feels like. Outwardly it might seem tender, but on the inside itā€™s messy and bloody and somewhat terrifying. Itā€™s a chainsaw buzzing at your throat.ā€

Oxymorrons – ‘Last Call’

New York-based punk band Oxymorrons continue their genre-bending revolution with their latest single, ‘Last Call’ featuring Troi Irons.

When asked what inspired them to write such an honest song and share themselves so openly, the band explained, ā€œā€˜Last Callā€™ is an exercise in vulnerability and using our music to help us better understand ourselves and our coping mechanisms. Too many times weā€™ve all found ourselves drowning at the bottom of a bottle, using alcohol to help us feel something different or feel nothing at all. Whether youā€™ve struggled in the past or are struggling right now, we hope this song helps you feel seen and plays a role in helping you not struggle in the future.ā€
Ā
Featured artist Troi Irons brought a different perspective to the track, sharing, ā€œIā€™ve long been a fan of the Oxymorrons and what they do so I was thrilled to hop on this song. I donā€™t really drink but itā€™s more a metaphor for how humans tend to reach for the closest thing to help us feel less alone. Itā€™s not always healthy. Hopefully people reach for the music to feel less alone with this one.ā€

DETHRXNER – ‘STAY COLD’

Copenhagen’s DETHRXNER share their new single, ‘STAY COLD’ featuring Aaron Matts of ten56..

“ā€˜Stay Coldā€™Ā  is a track about resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges. The lyrics convey a determination to stick to one’s plan, despite past failures and missed opportunities – itā€™s ultimately a declaration of staying strong, staying true to oneself, and staying focused on success, no matter how tough the journey may beā€Ā  – Vocalist Neema RadĀ

Tribe of Ghosts – ‘Sunburner (Deny the Rot)’

Tribe Of Ghosts share their brand new single ‘Sunburner (Deny the Rot)’.

ā€œWhen my mental health began severely declining before my diagnosis, I always associated the Sun as some kind of aggressor or enemy as it would cause emotional and physical discomfort whenever I saw it… This discomfort would bring on these intense feelings of anxiety and intense physical pain that I would daily attempt to mask and ignore as I didnā€™t want to accept that I was mentally unwell.ā€ – Guitarist Adam Sedgwick.

snake eyes debut ‘no one is truly cool’

snake eyes ‘no one is truly cool’

Brighton’s snake eyes have shared new single, ‘no one is truly cool’, and you can check out the video above.

Commenting on the new single, vocalist Jim Heffy says: “I met a bloke in a band I like at a festival after separately having a really lovely chat with one of their bandmates. he was stand-offish and, to be honest, a bit of a prick, giving proper ā€˜too cool for schoolā€™ vibes. the whole exchange left a bad taste in my mouth.ā€

ā€œthe fake cool guy thing can only go so far. no need for a fake personality. just be real, be yaself. even Keith Richards puts down the whiskey and cigs sometimes and watches ā€˜the last of usā€™ in his pants with a bowl of nik naks like everyone else.ā€

The official video for the track was created by the bandā€™s drummer and visual director Thomas Coe-Brooker, who explains of the concept: “in keeping with the song, we thought it’d be fun to make a really cool looking video in the least cool of spaces – a family garage. kinda like when you’re having band practice as a teenager and you’re all really sending it like total bad asses…but ultimately, your mum’s seconds from bursting in to tell you it’s too loud and that your dinner’s ready. that, but with satisfying, nicely framed angles and dreamy in-camera long exposure, 90s style.”

Hell’s Ditch – ‘Ghosts’

Hell’s Ditch have shared new single, ‘Ghosts’, ahead of their debut EP, ‘Take Cover’, out March 23rd.

Vocalist Nick Davis explains: “Ghosts is about the hanging weight of the past, the present and the future. Capitalism puts a premium on individual success, which leads people to feel like their failing if they don’t achieve certain goals or milestones. It’s all too easy to plant trees, grow them, and then cut them down inside the confines of your own head. I wrote most of the lyrics while watching my cats seemingly stare at nothing on the ceiling”.

paradise fell. – ‘VICES.’

Alternative artist paradise fell has shared their debut offering ā€˜VICES.ā€™.

ā€œVICES. is a frantic confrontation of the irony; that something which kills us slowly, sets us free in the moment. It makes us feel alive. The bad habits we have are the only things that can save us from the drudgery of daily life. The very things that are killing us, become a cornerstone of our identity. They become familiar. They become part of who we are. A comfort in a chaotic world.ā€ – paradise fell.

Hunch Power hits back with their new pacifist anthem, ‘Eye for an Eye’.

“I’d been wanting to write a pacifist song about revenge for ages. I was sure about borrowing Ghandi’s famous words for the title and chorus but I couldn’t find the right music to go with it. One day I remembered an old idea I never demoed and realised the music matched perfectly so I wrote new lyrics and the band loved it” – Singer Harvey Springfield

ā€œThis is the beginning of the next chapter of our career,ā€ say the band. ā€œFlatline is Blind Channel on steroids. We captured the energy of last yearā€™s 130 shows into one song and threw it to a Berlin rave. The song was written with songwriting duo Blyne and itā€™s one of the heaviest tracks weā€™ve ever made. Next up in our News Report are Canadians Softcult, who this week shared their latest single, ‘Love Song’, which you can check out above. The single comes ahead of new EP, ‘see you in the dark’, which is out on March 24th.

“This is an anxious love song,”Ā Mercedes explains. “Itā€™s about loving someone so intensely that you find yourself in constant fear of losing them. Sometimes love and happiness can feel like these unattainable things that are too good to be true. Once weā€™ve finally found something our hearts have been yearning for, itā€™s hard to shake the thought that we will inevitably have to let it go. But these gnawing thoughts can get in the way of us allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, or enjoying our relationships for fear that they wonā€™t last.”

On the video Mercedes says, “We wanted the video to tell the story in a different way, focussing more on getting carried away with our own imaginations when it comes to falling in love. We filmed in a small legion hall and tried to make the ambiance a little depressing and mundane. Our main character is an elderly man whoā€™s sort of given up hope. Heā€™s there having a beer alone while everyone else is playing bingo. When he lays eyes on Gina, his co-star, he gets lost in fantasy, imagining not only the love they might have together but the type of person he could be if he had love in his life.”

ANGER PARTY – ‘Had Enough’

Alternative Horror Rock band ANGER PARTY are back with their sophomore single ā€˜Had Enoughā€™!

“Everyday we wake up and have the same conversations, with the same people, on the same subjects, with no purpose or profound effect on our lives. We create a state of perpetual monotony and anxiety, while wearing masks to hide our every emotion. All this is done to make prying onlookers think that everything is fine. ā€˜Had Enoughā€™ reflects on the deepest, darkest ways to break this cycle and exercise our true feelings on the world. It shows our desire to remove the mask, wipe away the make-up and reveal our true fears, frustrations, aggressions and vulnerabilityā€ – Lead Vocalist, Ashley Wilson

Militarie Gun – ‘Do It Faster’

Los Angeles’ Militarie Gun share a thrilling new single in ‘Do It Faster’.

De’Lour – ‘No One

South Wales based band Deā€™Lour share their staggering new single ā€˜No Oneā€™.

“No One was one of the first songs we wrote together as a band in a room and not remotely. We got together at the first opportunity we could when lockdown was lifted in 2020. When we wrote No One, we wanted to express our thoughts on society’s lack of self reflection. We all worry about what everyone else thinks of us, but when you boil it down, no one is paying attention, no one really cares. People are only really concerned with what’s going on in their world, inside their own heads. So we wanted to express the feeling that we shouldn’t care about what other people think, we should just go for it if it’s what we want or what we think is best.ā€ – Deā€™lour

ā€œAs we get older, sadly we start to lose the ones around us who we love, having lost both my parents and some dear friends in the last few years Iā€™ve started to question and look at my feelings on my own mortality and morality.Ā Iā€™ve come to realise that death is a part of life and even in the darkest days (that we all get sometimes), Iā€™ve come to understand that every aspect of life should be an intensified experience and never taken for granted.ā€
Ā
He continues:Ā ā€œThe video was shot in downtown Los Angeles and directed by Tony Aguilera. I love the cinematography and different camera filters that Tony used during the shoot. I think it complements the essence of the song, which conveys reflections of mortality and consequences of choice. Life must end eventually, but love doesnā€™t.ā€

Hundred Reasons debut ‘New Glasses’

Hundred Reasons – ‘New Glasses’

Hundred Reasons also had new music on offer this week and you can listen to new single, ‘New Glasses’, above.

Vocalist Colin Doran had the following to say about the themes behind the track:

“The lyrics for this song are really about a person I used to work with that spent lots of time treating people badly to cover up their own inadequacies. They were not good at their job but, due to their massive ego and how they wished to be perceivedĀ by others, preferred to make others feel deficient. The song describes how I came to realise this. The amusing thing is that it was a working title as when we startedĀ writing it, Larry had actually got new glasses that day but the name stuck.”

The song comes from upcoming album, ‘Glorious Sunset’, which is out February 24th.

Bury Tomorrow share ‘Boltcutter’

Bury Tomorrow – ‘Boltcutter’

This week saw Bury Tomorrow share their new single, ‘Boltcutter’, which you can listen to above.

The tracks features on upcoming new album, ‘The Seventh Sun’, released March 31st.

Speaking of the track, guitaristĀ Kristan DawsonĀ shares,Ā ā€œfrom the second we put the finishing touches to Boltcutter, we knew it had to be a single. Whilst it is a fundamental Bury Tomorrow track, being both loud and heavy, it also emphasises the new era of our band.”

“Specifically, it highlights influences we havenā€™t necessarily channelled through Bury Tomorrow before, and itā€™s a pleasure to continue to expand the possibilities of our music. It began its existence through Tom crafting the foundations, with an ambient and electronic soundscape, before the rest of the band provided their usual expertise.ā€

ā€œConsidering its weighty riffs and catchy dual vocal hooks, we also knew that Boltcutter was going to be an undeniable addition to future setlists. And for those who have attended recent shows on our tour, Ā they will have already had a sneak preview. Weā€™ve loved being able to preview a single release like this with our fans, and it seems that it has already made an impact with teamBT and we canā€™t wait for the rest of our wonderful community to hear it.ā€

Little Triggers – ‘Personality Crisis’

UK rockers Little Triggers share their new single, ‘Personality Crisis’.

The track takes a swipe at social media influencers and the millions of young people who follow them. Tom remarks: ā€œI donā€™t feel any connection to this sort of instant gratification online culture. The minds of these digital influencers are a closed book to me. I just donā€™t get why so many people think they have something meaningful to say.ā€ Hamilton goes on to elaborate: ā€œThe personality crisis of the song title is both my alienation from this virtual world and also that of the individuals who think their online musings really matter. To them and their followers, I say get a life ā€“ a real life!ā€

MOSKITO – ‘517’

Fearless UK band MOSKITO are back with their new single, ‘517’, taken from upcoming mixtape, ‘Bad Love’ out January 27th.

ā€œ517 is a song which allows you to find yourself lost in the chaos, conjuring any emotion in which you allow yourself, this is your pageā€¦. What would you write? After all we all just architects of our own downfall! It’s like a letter to your ex. Full of optimism, pride, resentment, confusion, jealousy, loathing & a desperation to prove them wrong. 517 is the ultimate revenge bod.ā€ – Frontman Jake Rudd.

MYNK – ‘Boundaries’

London trio MYNK share their debut single, ‘Boundaries’.

Bex Morrison comments:

“The track is about the boundaries we set in order to function in different situations / relationships; the crossing of sacrifice and habitĀ meets somewhere in the middle to maintain a connection. Itā€™s aboutĀ the relatable internal questioning of ā€˜do I/donā€™t I?ā€™ and where that takes you, and how you can lose yourself in it.ā€

Rival Sons debut ‘Nobody Wants To Die’

Rival Sons – ‘Nobody Wants To Die’

This week saw Rival Sons return with news that they will be releasing a new album, ‘Darkfighter’ on March 10th.

The group also debuted their brand new single, ‘Nobody Wants To Die’, which you can listen to above.

Regarding ‘Nobody Wants to Die’, vocalist Jay Buchanan shares, ā€œYou live your life knowing that the sword of Damocles is hanging over your head by a thread. Youā€™re fully aware of the impermanence of your existence, but you canā€™t think about it all the timeā€”or itā€™ll fuck your life up.

I used to work in a mortuary as a service advisor for a few years, driving and opening the hearses. Iā€™d attend three funerals per day. Sometimes, they would be filled over capacity. Other times, it would just be me, a priest, and a hole in the ground. It doesnā€™t matter who you are; the great equalizer is coming. I was thinking of this because the music sounded like pursuit.ā€

Elaborating on the genesis of ‘Darkfighter’, Buchanan notes, ā€œ’Darkfighter’ represents the cultural mitosis of isolation, the Pandemic, and the national fabric of the US getting looser and looser. When I say ā€˜Cultural Mitosisā€™, there are lines being drawn constantly. Weā€™re so divided, and you canā€™t step over the lines without offending someone. It certainly informed my writing.

We recognized a responsibility to put a good word on peopleā€™s ears so thereā€™s a good word coming back on their tongues too. We missed the joy of the live show and that magical interaction. When it was taken from us, that made me want to sing about topics that were important. There are strong themes on this record of loss of identity, preservation of joy, and beholding light and shape again.ā€

Lead guitarist Scott Holiday added, ā€œRecords are a healthy form of escapism. I hope this one takes you as far away as possible. Our intent was to create a cinematic body of work. As soon as the doors shut behind you, youā€™re enveloped on the ride. This is the sound of us really coming into our own. Weā€™ve gotten further from our influences and gotten closer to what we are. ‘Darkfighter’ sounds like the Rival Sons.ā€

Tigercub share ‘The Perfume of Decay’

Tigercub – ‘The Perfume of Decay’

This week saw Tigercub return with their new single, ‘The Perfume of Decay’, which you can listen to above.

The track marks Tigercubā€™s debut release for Loosegroove Records, the label co-founded by Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard, a longtime champion of the band.

ā€œThey say comparison is the thief of joy,ā€ says Tigercubā€™s 7-foot frontman Jamie Hall, ā€œand nowhere is this more acutely felt than on the internet; the public ledger where I must amend my social cv daily, to portray my life to others in the most rose tinted & ineffable way possible. The reality couldnā€™t be further from the truth of course, beneath this facade I am crumbling, cascading into despair and at odds with my emotions. ā€˜The Perfume of Decayā€™ is my expression of this feeling, an argument between affectation and naturalness. It marks the beginning of a new era for us ā€“ this is Tigercub at its heaviest, its most accomplished, and most unapologetic.ā€

ā€œJamie Hall is not only an incredible songwriter, singer, and fucking wicked guitarist,ā€ says Stone Gossard, ā€œbut he also has a deep understanding of art and music history. This guy dabbles in it all ā€” visual arts, digital media, world history. This band is generational, and Jamieā€™s a natural star. Loosegroove couldnā€™t be happier working with Tigercub.ā€

ā€œItā€™s all about opposites,ā€ Jamie Hall says. ā€œSweet-and-salty popcorn tends to taste better than regular popcorn, even though those are two opposing forces. I wanted to nail that concept with our heavy guitars, softer-sung vocals, Can-style grooves, and a bit of shoegaze. Counterpoints can come together and make a powerful connection. Iā€™ve crossed the threshold from my 20s to my 30s, so Iā€™m getting older, but Iā€™m also entering my prime. This record is a reflection of that.ā€

Pulled Apart By Horses share video for ‘Rinse & Repeat’

Pulled Apart By Horses – ‘Rinse & Repeat’

Pulled Apart By Horses this week shared the video for their single, ‘Rinse & Repeat’, which you can watch above. The track comes from new album, ‘Reality Cheques’, which is out now!

Commenting on the track, vocalist Tom Hudson says the single is ā€œan ode to all that have found themselves trapped in the darker corners of the music industry. The repetitive whirring of the machine. A spanner in the works of the daily grind. A helping hand to break out of a vicious cycle. The realisation that they need you more than you need them. Inspired by seeing Ziggy Stardust stood in line at the jobcentre. More punk rock than Iggy advertising life insurance.ā€

Witch Fever debut ‘Beauty and Grace’

Witch Fever – ‘Beauty and Grace’

There was also more new music this week from Witch Fever. The group debuted new single, ‘Beauty and Grace’, which you can check out above.

The track features on debut album, ‘Congregation’, which is out October 21st.

Singer Amy Walpole says of the track, ā€œā€˜Beauty and Graceā€™ ended up being the dark horse of the record! Before we went into the studio it wasnā€™t one of our faves but Sam really brought it out of its shell! The song is about pushing back against oppressive feminine beauty standards whilst also finding a place for femininity that you enjoy and makes you feel powerful !! Femininity is not a weakness, as much as society may tell you it is! If it empowers you and brings you joy itā€™s a strength!ā€

Other Half – ‘Slab Thick’

Norwich-based post-hardcore outfit Other Half have debuted new track ‘Slab Thick’.

Commenting on the video, the band say: ā€œBSM wanted a high-concept, high-production pop video to help shift some serious units so we wrangled the few dogs we know and the one cat we own to produce three and a half minutes of visual magic.ā€

ā€œWe like doing everything ourselves; for DIY punk kudos and because weā€™re tight and awkward, so it was fun figuring out how to make it look like weā€™re all playing in a room together even when one of us was filming the whole time.”

ā€œFor the second part of the video we had next to nothing and were filming some pretty shudder-inducing stuff in the local park when our friendā€™s Roya and Charlie walked past with their dogs; Daisy and Lily. Never one to miss a free opportunity for content, we scooped those dogs up, spun around a bit and sung at the camera. Rinse, repeat and the rest is history. Thanks to all the nice animals that starred alongside us.ā€

IOTA – ‘Ballet Box’

‘Ballet Box’, the latest single from Bristol-based rock five-piece IOTA is out now.

Explaining the inspiration behind the single, vocalist and lyricist Jodie Robinson explains, ā€œIts about a ballerina inside of a jewellery box coming to life as the box closes. Inspired by the thought of the ā€˜objectā€™ coming to life and how they’d never know what it was like to be outside of that box and nobody would ever know that they were alive. There was a play on the element of control and feeling trapped, fighting with that part of your mind. Itā€™s very much a song about ā€˜Is there more to life and can we fulfil that void’.”

Blue Violet – ‘Favourite Jeans’

Blue Violet follow up debut album with new single, ‘Favourite Jeans’.

ā€œFor all of the chaos and hardships that Covid brought to the world it also provide ample time for people to be creativeā€ reflects singer Sarah Gotley of the ā€˜Love, Hate & Forgivenessā€™ EP. ā€œSo although we only released our debut album in April this year we wanted to bring out some of the music that we’d been working on in that timeā€.
